Summer Camp Registration is now open!
OSSB Summer Camps
The OSSB 2022 Summer Camp registration is now open. Our summer programming offers multiple camps to students living in Ohio who are blind or have low vision and are entering grades 3-12. All camps are residential unless noted in the registration information.
Each camp cost $25 per camper. All required paperwork can be found on the registration page and must be returned to be considered completely registered.
Contact ossbsummercamp@ossb.oh.gov with any questions.
Spring Break Reminder
Spring Break will be March 28-April 1, 2022. Residential students may return on Sunday, April 3 as early as 5 pm.
Please note that Youth Leader staff will slowly begin to encourage students to take home non-essential items following Spring Break. Weather permitting, we will have one final seasonal clothing swap out this school year. Due to space limitations on transportation, students will need to slowly bring home items weekly in April and May so they are not overwhelming drivers and/or transportation the last day/weeks of school.
If you have any specific packing needs or questions, please contact your child's dorm Youth Leaders.
National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) Programming on Tuesday Nights
The Residential Department is pleased to share that we have partnered with the National Youth Advocate Program, or NYAP, a community mental health provider, to provide additional supports to all students residing in the Residential Program beginning March 8, 2022.
Students will participate in weekly group meetings that focus on topics that include, but are not limited to, self-esteem, social skills, coping skills, building relationships, personal responsibility and accountability. NYAP clinicians will be using evidence-based curriculum to provide discussions and activities around the above topics; sometimes there might be an art project or activity along with the discussion.
Our hope is that all students are available to participate in NYAP programming. If you would like to opt out of participation, please contact the Director of Student Resources, Daniel Custer, at 614-728-1420 or dcuster@osdb.oh.gov.
After School Programming
The After-School Program continues to host fun and exciting opportunities for students to participate in daily.
Current Club opportunities include:
Game On, 3D Model, Soccer, Improv and Explorer's Club. They are also continuing Homework Center after school daily in the library.
Please reach out to After-School Program Coordinator, Brian Wagner, at bwagner@ossb.oh.gov if would like more information about after-school programming.
Recreation and Leisure Recap
Although winter was cold, OSSB Residential students still found ways to have fun!
Valentine's Dance
Students were invited to the gymnasium for a Valentine's Dance. Student enjoyed face painting, karaoke, cookie decorating, holiday themed games, conga line and dancing.
Bowling
P7 Dorm enjoyed a trip to a local bowling alley for bowling and arcade games.
Spa Night
The girls in P5 Dorm had a spa night in February. They enjoyed exfoliating their hands with sugar scrub, a face mask, and a moisturizing foot mask. They listened to relaxing music and socialized. The participating students received a spa goodie bag with slippers, eye mask, chap stick, lotion, bodywash, and a loofah. To end the spa night they were offered brownie sundaes with various toppings.
Valentine's Dinner
The older girls' dormitory cooked up a special Valentine's dinner. Students were in charge of coming up with the menu, shopping for the items, and preparing it. Dinner was spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, various desserts including chocolate-dipped strawberries, and sparkling grape juice. The students really enjoyed their evening!
