The Mexican American War
The manifest destiny was the obvious fate to settle land all the way to the Pacific Ocean in order to spread democracy. They chose former Tennessee governor James K. Polk to help them acquire new land.
Californios were people who lived in California there were only about 3,200 of them.
They were cowboys who managed the large herds of cattle and sheep

In 1848, the United States and Mexico signed a treaty called the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which forced the war to come to an end , and a lot of the northern Mexican territory was turned over to the United States. Later in 1853 the Gadsden Purchase happened, which required the U.S. to pay Mexico 10 million dollars for the southern part of the Mexican territory
