Hope Village
Last year we built and donated a tiny house to Hope Village at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The village has been hosting seven guests for several months now, and together Westminster and the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) have identified some needs for volunteer support. OUUC's Tiny House team has so far been supporting the village with financial contributions, by providing Sunday evening dinners, and more. Now you have the opportunity to pitch in and help Hope Village fulfill its mission of providing supportive transitional housing. Give guests rides to services and appointments, provide and share meals, or help by monitoring the use of their shower in the building. For these and other ways to help, Read more...

From Rev. Mary
I have learned that OUUC is a caring community. Every week I observe people caring for each other in so many ways; sharing food, giving rides, offering a hug or a kind word, giving support. I have also had the joy of working with the more formal ways that we offer support to each other, like the Pastoral Care Team and Caring Friends. As the congregation has grown and changed over the years, these formal programs are changing, too.
Over these past six months, the Pastoral Care team and I have been working to clarify their role and build skills for a ministry of presence. Each minister uses a team like this a bit differently and the Team has been wonderful about exploring yet another way of being with another minister. This team of caring people offers one-time or on-going support to those who are in a life transition, which may include illness or caregiving or bereavement. Read more....

Support LP Brown Students
Last year, this congregation generously donated supplies for the Hygiene Closet at our neighboring elementary school, L. P. Brown. More than 50% of their students receive free or reduced lunches, and often lack adequate hygiene supplies and basic clothing. Here are the items most urgently needed: mini deodorant, socks (kid sizes), underwear (especially small size 5-8), girls’ leggings (small), boys’ sweatpants (small), t-shirts, laundry detergent (small/sample size packets), toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and shampoo/conditioner. OUUC’s Faith in Action Ministry will provide a School Collection Box in the Commons through February. Thank you!
Jail Expansion and County Courthouse
Tye Menser, County Commissioner, and Patrick O'Connor, Director of Thurston County Public Defense, will discuss and answer questions about the county jail expansion and proposed new courthouse. These are both important initiatives. The public is invited. 7:00 pm, Thursday, February 13 at OUUC. Presented by Justice not Jails. Contact Steve Tilley.
