FULL STEAM AHEAD
December 11, 2015
Message from Administration
We are still having severe issues with the 4th and 5th grade bathrooms. Students are NOT allowed to go to the restrooms alone. Please be following the new sign-in/sign-out guidelines and be checking the restrooms before and after your class goes in. Recently, boys have been standing on the urinals and one is coming off the wall (4th grade hall). The 5th grade boys restroom is still closed as we are waiting on parts because some boys tore up the inside of the toilets. I can't staff a monitor at the restrooms all day, so we have to have your help with this! Talk to your class again and please report anything you see as soon as you see it. Thanks for your help!
Weather Update (from the county office)
What: Cold weather temperatures for outside participation
Temperatures are starting to drop near freezing for low temperatures with daytime temperatures in the 40 to 60 degree range. It is suggested that when wind chill temperatures drop below 40 degrees, the amount of time spent outside should be limited to 20 minutes or less during school hours. The amount of time should be adjusted down as the temperatures drop below freezing. Be cautious since all students may not be dressed appropriately for these temperatures.
*Recess should be no more than 20 minutes at any temperature, but this is a good reminder for cold weather.

KISS THE PIG Update
I will be kissing a pig (her name is Sophie!) on Friday, December 18th. I am still nailing down the time and details. I'm thinking that we will pull the top earners for Boosterthon to see it in action, but it will also be videotaped to show to the entire school. We will email more information as soon as I have details. :)
Holiday Message from CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks. The message will air daily on GCPS TV and we encourage you to tune in to watch. In addition, you can view the message using this link:

Current common assessments will be removed from the MOCC January 1, 2016 and revised common assessments will be posted as development is completed.

LIFE SAVER AWARD
Mobile Device Wireless Connection
Teachers using their own devices for instructional purposes will need to reconnect to the GSPS-Mobile network whenever you are required to change your computer password.
Teachers using their own devices for student use need to receive a student access account from Jennifer Mimms so students don't have access to teacher level internet.
*** Teachers should NEVER be logged into devices that are for student use!
Questions? Please see Jennifer.
Anticipated Internet Outages
We anticipate a large number of service outages and Denial of Service attacks during DA testing weeks. Please plan accordingly by printing or saving materials to your desktop in case the portal and internet is down.

2015 Hour of Code
Students of all ages can choose from a variety of self-guided tutorials, for kindergarten up. A spark to keep learning computer science. Once students see what they create right before their eyes, they’re empowered to keep going. A global movement with more than 100 million learners in 196 countries.
Any class can sign up for one 30 to 60 min slot. If you would like your class to participate, please sign up on https://goo.gl/FXJyxC or the school Symbaloo page. Please look for your name if your class will be doing Coding during specials.
Please encourage students to bring their own devices since I will not have enough for each child and labs won't be available due to DDA testing. *Kindergarten and maybe 1st grade might consider doing whole group instruction. Please indicate when signing up.
Due to DDA testing this event will take place in your classroom and I have extended the dates from one week to two weeks beginning on December 7 and ending on December 17.
We have some exciting tools for this year's hour of code! Looking forward to meeting with you and your students.

THE HOLIDAY BREAK IS ONCE AGAIN UPON US AND WE ASK FOR YOUR HELP AND CONSIDERATION.
The final few days of school seem to result in many parties and celebrations. Many of those include pizza and related products.
DUE TO THE DEMAND FOR OUR PRODUCTS DURING THESE TIMES WE ARE REQUESTING THAT TEACHERS AND SUPPORT STAFF PLACE THEIR ORDERS IN ADVANCE TO ALLOW US TO PLAN OUR PURCHASING AND STAFFING TO MAKE SURE YOU RECEIVE YOUR ORDERS ON TIME. WE HAVE LIMITED PRODUCTIVITY (WE CAN ONLY MAKE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF ORDERS PER HOUR) AND WILL SCHEDULE ADVANCE ORDERS AS THE PRIORITY OVER LAST MINUTE CALLS.
PLEASE ... IF YOU PLAN TO ORDER PIZZA AND RELATED PRODUCTS GET YOUR ORDERS CALLED IN ASAP. OUR COMPUTER SYSTEM ALLOWS US TO SCHEDULE IN ADVANCE THEREBY ALLOWING US TO PURCHASE SUPPLIES AND SCHEDULE LABOR. DON'T RISK PLANNING YOUR PARTIES AND NOT HAVING AN ADVANCE ORDER.
Pricing remains the same as the past nine years
$7.50 for an extra large one topping (12 slices / $.62 per slice)
THESE ARE THE SAME PIZZAS THAT HAVE EARNED US THE HONOR OF BEING NAMED "BEST OF GWINNETT"
