Miss Courtney's Classroom
This week...
We worked on tracing shapes, painting shapes, locating them within our classroom environment, sorting them by different attributes, playing games with them, and creating a Pete the Cat using different shapes. We even incorporated this theme into our gross motor activities by climbing through HUGE shapes.
We did some partner work this week. The kids worked in two's to do marble painting during whole group time. We had a very funny moment when the marble box accidentally fell and marbles went everywhere! The kids laughed like crazy of course but then everyone got up and helped to pick them up. It was good practice for cleaning up and following directions! After we stopped giggling we scooped different colors of paint into shallow boxes, threw some marbles in and got to work! Each set of partners worked together to lift the box up, down and side to side. The results looked so cool!
Another way we identified shapes was by playing a cool cause and effect game. We took plastic cups, hid a shape inside and then taped a single layer of tissue paper over the top. The kids took turns to "punch" through the paper and get the mystery shape out of the cup. We matched our shapes to larger ones on the rug.
We did many things outside this week, took many walks, played on the playground, rode our cars and bikes on the blacktop, and swung on the swings. We also worked a lot of "stop" and "go" this week. During walks outside, and during freeze dance in class the kids improved upon stopping and starting. This is so important for safety and listening at school!

We did a large group art project to create a tableclothe for back to school night! We used all different tools (and our hands of course) to paint with. Having a large space to create on is so exciting for this age group!
