From Nurse Tracey
Flu-like symptoms and confirmed cases have grown in the student body here at Williston. Please be vigilant in monitoring your child. If they are not feeling well (very tired, coughing, congestion, vomiting, or diarrhea), or have a temperature of 100.0 or greater please keep them at home so we can keep our school healthy. If you have any questions please email or call the school nurse.

PBIS Character Trait of the Week: Gratitude
Gratitude - Being thankful, showing appreciation and returning kindness.
As we go into our Thanksgiving holiday break, do not take things for granted. Show gratitude for what you have and for what you have been given. Be thankful for the people around you; your family and your teachers. Remember, there are people in the world, and even in this community, who may not have as much as you. Be grateful and be gracious!

Catch My Breath
As part of the NHCS wellness initiative, students in grades 5-12 will participate in the CATCH My Breath program to raise awareness about the harmful effects of vaping. Students will take an anonymous survey at the beginning and after the completion of the program. If you do not wish for your student to complete the survey, please return the opt-out slip sent home last week.
Say Something!
New Hanover County Schools is partnered with the Say Something Anonymous Reporting program to provide our students with a safe, responsive way to seek help for themselves and others.
Say Something is a youth violence prevention program from Sandy Hook Promise β a national violence prevention organization. Say Something Anonymous Reporting System allows youth and adults to submit secure & anonymous safety concerns to help identify and intervene upon at-risk individuals BEFORE they hurt themselves or others. The system enables school administrators and law enforcement to create effective interventions and to help prevent violence, suicide, bullying, self-harm and other forms of threatening behavior.
With the Anonymous Reporting System, itβs easy and completely confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.
Last week, Williston students will receive the student training on the program. This consists of a 25 minute video produced by Say Something. If your child has a personal connection to a school violence experience or horrific event and you would like to discuss this with a school counselor before the video is shown, please reach out to their grade level counselor.

Grading Policy
PowerSchool Helpful Tips:
Helpful Tip #1: When you see your child's grade, if you click on the actual grade (A), you will see a breakdown of the individual assignments.
Helpful Tip #2: Please understand that this is a huge piece of communication between you and your child's teacher. In essence, by the teachers entering the grades in the grade book, this is their way of communicating to you about your child's progress. The teachers expect that you are checking Parent Portal each week. If you have any questions about grades, ask your child first (they should know!) and then email the teacher if further clarification is needed concerning an assignment/grade.
Helpful Tip #3: You can download the PowerSchool app for your smart phone. You can see live attendance, assignments, scores, grades and more. There is also a student version that you can download if your child wants to have the information on his/her smart phone.
Helpful Tip #4: If you are coming from an elementary school in New Hanover County, your PowerSchool username and password are the same.
School Messenger Communication App
The School Messenger App allows schools to inform you about school-related emergencies, school closures, attendance, and important announcements.
Visit https://go.schoolmessenger.com to setup your account.
BUS TRANSPORTATION
Due to numerous changes in routes, stops, riders and times throughout the school year, please download the Edulog Parent Portal bus tracking phone application. Once your child is registered, it will have the most up-to-date route information.
If you have any bus transportation issues, please contact one of our assistant principals:
