Spring Picture Day is Monday, March 18th!
Safety During Arrival and Dismissal
- Never allow your child to cross in the middle of the street; always cross at a crosswalk
- No parking on the north side of Wakeman between Washington and Scott Streets; please adhere to the yellow "no parking" and "no pick up/drop off" signs
- Drive 20 miles per hour or SLOWER in our school zone
- No cell phone usage in our school zone
- Do not turn your vehicle around using a Hawthorne neighbor's driveway
Hawthorne Spirit Week: 3/18-3/22
3/18: Workout Day: wear sweats/exercise clothing
3/19: Flip flop day: wear your sandals (bring a pair of shoes to change for recess and PE)
3/20: Beach and Vacation Day: wear your vacation clothes, like t-shirts and shorts
3/21: Crazy Hair Day
3/22: Sports Day: wear your favorite team
Important News from the Health Office for 5th Grade Parents
Your 5th grade student should have brought home an envelope with important health information. The envelope includes a letter with information regarding the health requirements for 6th grade, a physical examination form and a dental exam form.
The school nurse needs your 5th grade student’s health records, so that your child can begin 6th grade. Please return completed exams to the HAWTHORNE Elementary School health office before Memorial Day, or to the middle school after this date. The physical and immunization requirements MUST be completed and turned in by the first day of school, August 22, 2019. Please make your appointment now.
If you have any questions regarding the health requirements, please feel to contact the Health Office.
Congratulations to the Hawthorne Battle of the Books Team
Hawthorne’s 5th Annual BOB Tournament is Coming
If your child is interested in joining Intramural Battle of the Books and participating in the upcoming Battle of the Books tournament:
● Sign up in the library by March 15th
● Teammate requests allowed (up to 8 kids per team) but not guaranteed
● Final team assignments posted by March 20th
● Open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades
● All kids on a team must be from same grade
● You do not have to read all the books; everyone competes as a team
● Each team is responsible for preparing for the meets. Teams are encourage
to meet during recess or outside of school. We will distribute some study

Books list (12 books) will be distributed when the Wheaton Public Library releases the list for the 2020 Battle of the Books competition soon.
3rd Grade Battle: Tuesday, May 28 at 12:00-12:30 PM in the LLC
4th Grade Battle: Wednesday, May 29 at 12:00-12:30 PM in the LLC
5th Grade Battle: Thursday, May 30 at 12:00-12:30 PM in the LLC
Championship Battle: Friday, May 31 at 2:00-3:00 PM in gym (Grade-level winners plus the highest score received that did not win grade level)
Families are welcome to attend the meets.
State Testing: Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
It's time to order your yearbooks if you haven't done so already! They cost $11.99 each. Deadline is April 17th PLUS you can log in and create 2 custom pages for your student. In other words, 2 pages full of pictures just of them! Order online: www.treering.com/validate and use School Code: 101515708176509
Also,please send your pictures you'd like included in the yearbook directly to firstname.lastname@example.org - you can email individual images, use google drive, dropbox, facebook messenger, whatever works for you! Please make sure they are clearly labeled with the activity and grade of students. Thank you!

Celebrate your child’s birthday in a big way! Wish him/her a Happy Birthday on the Hawthorne School sign. Rent it for their big day and let them see their name in big letters and lights!
