School Site Council
I hope that each of your families are enjoying spring and the end of the school year. It amazes me that we are already 5 weeks into school. As we get going this year, have you been wondering, “How can I become more involved at school next year?” Don’t be alarmed, it is a natural question that always comes up. One great way to become more involved is to join the School Site Council. We have a two openings for next year and would love your participation.
What does School Site Council do?
School Site Council (SSC) is responsible for our school plan and our safety plan. This means that SSC decides the school’s focus for instruction each year. This council of teachers, parents, and administration make a significant impact on how the school functions.
What is my commitment?
The SSC meets monthly in the afternoon from 3:15 to 4:45 pm at Prestwood. Parents joining the SSC typically make a two-year commitment to be on the council. Members are asked to look at some information between meetings, but the main responsibility is to attend the monthly meetings. If you are interested in making a positive impact on our school, consider joining the SSC. Simply send an email to jsutter@sonomaschools.org and let us know your interest.
Odyssey of the Mind – Coaches Needed
We are in need of coaches to maintain the number of students from last year and make space for new participants this year. If your child loves Odyssey, we need your help!
What is Odyssey? Imagine a combination of theater and problem solving with a creative twist. Through the writing of original scripts, the creation of costumes, props, scenery, and technical elements, teams of students work together to produce incredible solutions to creative problems while thinking “Beyond the Box!” Students with talents in many areas find a unique opportunity to showcase their gifts in script writing, costume creation, music, dance, visual arts, props and scenery construction, engineering, problem solving, leadership, critical thinking, and more! https://www.calomer.org/
The season starts in mid-October, but if we don’t have enough coaches, we will have to limit the number of students.
Email Melissa if you would like to be a coach or if you’d like to know more: melissa.afterman@gmail.com

Garden Club Session 2!
Please join Ms. Brown and the Prestwood Garden Club! Our September session ended on the 27th but for those interested we will not skip a beat and continue with the following Thursdays from 3:15-4:15.
October 4th, 11th, 25th
November 1st, 8th
The five week session costs $50. Snacks are provided.
Please note there is no garden club the week of conferences.
During this session, we will turn the beds, plant winter starts and seeds, harvest fall and winter crops, prep beds for the spring, and design new garden areas. With a little parent participation, we will finish the chicken coops and rebuild our compost bins! If you are interested in helping get the chicken coop set up or sign your child up for Garden Club, please email Ms. Brown.
Prestwood & Flowery Volunteer Swap
The Flowery Fall Fiesta is on Friday, October 12th and will need volunteers. Prestwood and Flowery elementary PTOs have partnered the past several years and swapped volunteers for our largest fundraisers. This allows Flowery parents to attend and enjoy the evening instead of having to volunteer at their school’s event. In the spring the Flowery parents do the same for our Prestwood Benefit Ball. It is a great opportunity for both schools to have successful fundraisers.
Thank you in advance for volunteering.

Oficina del Director
¿Has oído hablar de Walk to Learn?
