Reading
We are finishing up our 8th unit, Amazing Animals. Over the last couple of weeks, we have been learning about similarities and differences between the structures and functions of animal characteristics, basic needs of most animals, and habitats. We continued to work on asking and answering questions, identifying the main topic and retelling key details of a text, and knowing various text features to locate key facts or information in a text.
Vocabulary Words: mammal, amphibian, reptile, structure, function, characteristic, depend, endangered, survive, behavior, habitat
Writing
Each student has chosen an animal to research. They have found facts from books and websites and have written them on their note taking organizer. They are now using their notes to write an informative book. Their book will contain features of a non fiction text such as a Table of Contents, a diagram, illustrations with captions, important facts, and a glossary. The students will learn to teach their reader about a topic, keeping the reader's questions in mind as they write.
Next week the kids will be sharing their animal books with one another.
They are extremely proud of their work! Look for these to come home next week!
