2023 MLK Jr. Day Snacks for Students Drive
SIX Things You Need to Know!
1 - WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25TH IS AN EARLY RELEASE DAY
This Wednesday, January 25th is an early release day. School will dismiss at 12:05 pm. Please update your students dismissal plan in PickUp Patrol to reflect any changes.
2 - REPORTS OF STUDENT PROGRESS WILL BE LIVE ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 27 AT 3:00 PM
Mid year Reports of Student Progress (ROSP) forms will be live in Powerschool for caregivers to view next Friday. Here are directions to help you access this report. I know when I only do certain things once or twice a year I sometimes forget how. I hope this helps.
3 - THE COLD WINTER WEATHER IS HERE! Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for these cold days. In addition, remind your children to check the lost and found if they have left something behind.
4 - LABEL, LABEL, LABEL
A lot of our Jaguars leave things behind each day. This is a friendly reminder to label all belongings that you send to school with your students. If items are labeled, we can return them to their rightful owners. Grab a sharpie and write your student's name on items (gloves, hats, coats, boots, water bottles, etc.).
5 - REMINDER FOR PARENTS WHO WANT TO VOLUNTEER - Volunteer--CORI Checks
If you want to volunteer in schools, you must have a CORI check conducted and you must go into the building with identification (drivers license or passport) to do this. Click here for description of what a CORI check is and does. Without a CORI check, you cannot volunteer in the school. Here is the form to fill out for a CORI.
6 - FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
We have a range of financial supports available in the Natick Public Schools. This includes assistance with school fees, such as the bus and picture day, scholarships for programs such as the Book Fair and connections to community resources that may be helpful. If you are interested in these programs, please contact Laura Loftus, our school counselors, to have a private conversation. Her email is lloftus@natickps.org.
Principal's Message
Dear Johnson Families,
Last Friday afternoon, January 13, was Celtics Spirit Day at Johnson! Many students and staff, wearing Celtics gear or green swag, greeted Celtics team reporter, Amanda Pflugrad who led a school-wide assembly. Amanda is respected as one of the talented rising Boston sports broadcasters. She currently serves as the reporter/host for the Boston Celtics. She conducts pre and post game interviews with both the players and coaches, delivers game recaps/analysis, as well as daily updates from practice.
Amanda studied broadcasting and news reporting at the University of Oregon. She has worked with major celebrities and written sports articles for ESPN and E!
Amanda led a read aloud of the book: What Do You Do with a Problem? to our entire JES school community. She discussed the importance of teamwork and connected major league sports programs to the “Everyday Speech” SEL curriculum. Amanda’s remarks touched on several of the important SEL Themes, including: self-management, supporting others, team inclusion, the power of positive thinking, mindset goals and how to accomplish greatness with perseverance. Our students asked many questions and Amanda was gracious in providing extended time for lots of students to participate. Special thanks to fourth grade teacher Ms. Diana Katsikaras for arranging for this highly engaging assembly! (See photos below)
Just a reminder that we will continue to go outside for snack and recess throughout the winter months. When there is snow on the ground, please send all the winter gear including: snow pants, boots, jacket, gloves/mittens and hat/hood. To go outdoors to play in the snow (crawl around, build open roof shelters/forts, make snow sculptures, etc.), students need the full complement of cold weather gear.
Thank you for your help with this request.
Best regards,
John
