MESSAGE FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Please help keep our kids safe and healthy! Some students have food allergies and need to avoid certain foods. Please keep this in mind if you join your child for lunch. Do not share food or treats with other students unless first checking with their teacher, or the building nurse. Also, when sending snacks to share in the classroom, please read labels carefully for ingredients. For example, sometimes a snack will not contain peanuts, but may have had cross contamination from being processed using the same equipment. Please be mindful of the health needs of all our students. Thank you for your help!
EMPOWER ME! PRESENTATIONS
On May 14, your child will have the opportunity to attend a presentation called “Empower Me!” on personal safety awareness. Similar to last year, this program is provided to students in grades K-4 and is designed to help children learn about personal safety in an empowering and positive way. An additional parent only presentation is planned for Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 PM. The parent only presentation is open to parents from all 3 schools and will be held at the McAuliffe Elementary Media Center. The presentations were funded through a grant from the United Way. Please see the parent letter below for more information.
END OF DAY PICK UP AND BUSING REMINDER
We want to make sure all students are safe at dismissal. Please notify the office or your child's teacher at the beginning of the school day of any changes to their end of day plans. Changes made late in the day are challenging to communicate. Consistency with your child’s dismissal plans reduces stress on all parties involved. Keeping the same plan, day after day, helps us maintain safety throughout dismissal.
We understand that there are times when it is necessary to change dismissal plans. In those instances, it is recommended to have a note a day in advance, and the day of. Teachers will not deviate from normal end of day plans without notification from a parent. Please keep in mind that these steps are the same if your child plans to go home with a friend. If your child intends to ride a bus home with their friend, the bus driver also requires a note. We thank you for your advanced planning and communication.
SUMMER WEATHER AND FLIP-FLOPS
As the weather continues to be conducive to being outside, our class may spend prolonged periods (20 min+) outside learning. Please have your child bring any needed sun exposure items such as hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc. that you see as appropriate for your child. If your child is going to bring sunscreen, please show them how to apply it themselves, and remind them not to share their sunscreen with other students. A base layer of sunscreen can also be applied at home before sending your child to school.
FLIP-FLOPS
Although flip-flops are fun and colorful, they should not be worn at school since they do not provide any stability or protection from injuries. Our nurse sees children with cuts, scratches, broken toenails, twisted ankles, and falls from running in flip-flops. Please be sure that your child wears appropriate shoes each day to school.
LOOKING AHEAD TO THE 19-20 SCHOOL YEAR
Each family will receive a communication in August containing important information regarding the beginning of the school year. This information will include your child(ren)’s classroom assignment and, if needed, the dates and times of kindergarten orientation.
The first day of school in the fall for students in grades 1-4 will be Tuesday, September 3rd and Wednesday, September 4th for kindergarten students.
Suggested classroom supply lists for the fall will be available on our school websites and in local stores.
