The Roadrunner -October 2018-
“Roadrunners are fast, strong, and smart”
Off and Running.......
Dear Parents-
The 1st month of school is behind us. Time really does fly! CPE continues to be a great place for learning. The students are enthusiastic, parents are supportive and the teachers are consistently working to provide the highest level of instruction for our kids. As we continue this year, I encourage you to maintain a positive outlook and take on any challenges with ferocity and determination. Setting up good habits regarding attendance and submitting quality work will benefit our students this year and throughout life. Please take on an assertive role in your child’s experience at school.
This year, we are making more of an effort to focus our attention on a set of core values that will help establish a higher degree of student success as they grow and face the challenges of life. As a staff, we spent some time at the beginning of this year discussing and prioritizing the skills students need in our rapidly changing culture and community.
With that in mind, our staff is currently developing units of study, implementing new tools and and promoting more in depth projects to develop these values along with the skills needed within those values for students. Please take a moment to think about the core values we have listed below in relation to your student’s strengths and areas for growth. I would encourage you to discuss this with your student’s teacher at the upcoming conference times. This will be a great opportunity to set some goals in specific areas for your child.
It is truly an exciting time in our school as we make some significant changes in how we teach and the tools we use to help students achieve more. I hope you will hear enthusiasm coming from your kids daily regarding their experience at school. Thank you for the time we have with your kids. Please know we consider it a privilege to be a part of their education.

Halloween at C.P.E.
Our Kindergarten classes are permitted to wear costumes on Halloween. Kinder teachers have integrated the activity within their curriculum to support student social development.
Proper Shoes at C.P.E.
Please consider the type of shoes your student(s) wear to school. Our students play hard! The playground has large bark chips that can sometimes irritate students who are wearing sandals or open toe type shoes. If you have a student who plays in the bark area it is best to send them to school with shoes that will protect their feet.
The Traffic Jam
Dear Parents-
We continue to work on the congestion problem during drop off and pick up times. Please do everything you can to help with the situation. If you drop your student(s) off in the round-a-bout in the morning, it is extremely helpful if you pull as far forward in the circle as possible before letting your children out. We have put signs out as good reminders. This will help maximize our drop off area.
Your help and patience is greatly needed to maintain the safety and efficiency involved in drop off and dismissal from school. Please partner with us.
Also, please remember these safe practices for drop off:
- In order to ease the congestion in the morning, parents of students in grades 1-5 may drop their student(s) off on Bush street between 7:35-7:55 a.m. Parents are not permitted past the gate on Bush St. If you need to come inside, please utilize the front entrance and check in.
- Please do not leave your children unattended at the school prior to 7:30 a.m. The front entrance doors open at 7:30 a.m. and supervision is provided at that time.
Halloween Carnival and Book Fair
Wear your costumes. Trick-or-treat bags will be handed out at the door. Go through the spooky maze & play some fun games. There will be photo opportunities with Halloween props. (Bring your own camera). Don’t forget to stop in the library for the book fair.
Fun for the entire family!
More information will be coming home soon.

Parent / Teacher / Student Conferences October 17th-19th
You may have noticed in looking at the school calendar that parent conferences are scheduled between October 16th-19th. Teachers will be scheduling conferences with parents during the upcoming weeks. Please know that attending conferences is an important part of our work together as teachers and parents. We are looking forward to discussing your students’ progress and establishing some goals for them during conferences.
Potential Volunteers.....
Training and background checks are required for individuals that will be regularly volunteering in classrooms.
We have updated our training schedule to include an online option. If you are unable to attend the volunteer training on October 4th @ 5:30 p.m., you can go to our school web page and do it there. You will find the training and required forms under the "Parent Volunteer" tab at the top of the page.
You only need to need to do the training once. So, if you have already been through the process there is no need to attend or repeat the training.
