KUTZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S NEWSLETTER
September 11, 2020
Thank You!
Thank you so much for your support with the first week of school. The staff LOVED seeing the chalk messages and sign on the first day. Home and School purchased masks for all staff members, too. They were a huge hit! Your kind emails and notes to teachers and me have meant the world to us. You have shown more than just patience, flexibility, understanding, and grace. You are an incredible community. The students are working so hard and doing their absolute best. I am so proud of the students, parents, teachers, and staff. Below are some pictures from teachers and staff this week.
We want to see your first week pictures too! Please email pictures from your first week to mernst@cbsd.org, jdebuque@cbsd.org, and kpirrone@cbsd.org.
Thank you!
Schedule Update
This first week of school has been focused on building relationships, establishing routines, and gaining comfort with our technology resources. On Monday, September 14, we begin instruction.
Attached and on our website here, families will find grade level schedules that will begin next week. As you review your child(ren)’s schedule, please note the following:
- A common lunch period has been preserved across grade levels.
- This schedule applies to all CBSD elementary schools. It represents a standard schedule, established across A/B/C schools. Please take note that the end-time has been advanced by 15 minutes.
- Specials – art, library, music, health & physical education, and QUEST – will take place once per week, asynchronously.
- Special education pull-out groups will begin on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 and related services will begin on Thursday, September 17, 2020.
- Many IEP revisions have been completed for our students to ensure we have the appropriate specially designed instruction in place. Due to the three modes available to all elementary families, students may have one special education teacher who oversees their IEP (the case manager), and a different special education teacher who delivers their pull-out instruction. Case managers will be in touch with more information about this for your child.
- Please note 5th grade virtual students in Mrs. Moriarty's class will follow the Jamison schedule, not the Kutz schedule.
Virtual School Supply List
Due to the virtual start this year, the school district asked us to share the following items listed below - for special subjects (Art, Music, Library, Gym, QUEST) and regular classroom instruction. If you would like to help a student in need, consider dropping off a bag of supplies at school--we'll make sure they find a good home. Thank you.

Is it a password problem? Email Mrs. Jones, our school librarian (mjones@cbsd.org)
Is it an issue with logging on, Canvas, or other app? Email Mr.Controy, our QUEST teacher (acontroy@cbsd.org)
Is there something wrong with your device? For example, it won't turn on, keys are broken. Submit a Help Desk Ticket here.

Attendance Expectations
Students are expected to be logged on virtually daily and present for daily instruction - both synchronous (LIVE) and asynchronous instruction. Teachers have communicated their schedule for week 1. Children will be expected to attend all elements of the school day, unless they have an excused absence (i.e. illness, appointment). It is important to understand that attendance is mandatory for all students per the compulsory attendance laws of Pennsylvania. Attendance will be taken each school day. Students that are not logged on at the start of class will be marked absent or tardy if they arrive late to their virtual class.
If your child will not be able to attend school virtually, parents need to email kpirrone@cbsd.org. Email is strongly preferred but if you are unable to email the school, please call the school attendance line at 267-893-3900.
