Message from the Principal
Dear Central Road Families,
This week, we begin the second trimester of the school year. In a few short weeks, families will be invited to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss their progress. Parent-Teacher Conferences were scheduled virtually this year. If you do not have a scheduled time, please contact your child’s teacher. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held virtually this year on Monday, November 23rd, and Tuesday, November 24th.
This week, we were able to implement concurrent learning with our kindergarten through 4th-grade classrooms. The staff at Central Road has done an excellent job navigating the new platform for delivering instruction. We want students to be engaged in learning every day. At this time, we have teachers in our building that do not currently have students in their classroom who live-stream daily. Due to this, please allow for up to 24 hours for us to implement concurrent instruction in classrooms where the teacher is not live streaming daily. While we will do our best to provide your child with access quickly, there are a few logistics that need to be planned for when changing platforms. Please contact your child’s teacher and communicate extended absences, and they will provide you with the meeting access code.
Information on our current pandemic is changing every day. As you are aware, the positivity numbers within the state of Illinois are rising. Central Road’s staff members are beginning to plan for the possibility of extended closures. Students will begin taking folders or binders with classroom assignments, math pages, reader’s notebooks, and their Chromebooks home daily in the next few weeks. Students in Grades K-3 will receive Chromebook cases. At that time, devices will be sent home. Chromebooks should remain in the cases provided by our district, and devices should be charged daily at home.
We do not have any plans to close Central Road. Materials will be sent home daily to be proactive in case a school closure is recommended. It is our hope that these items will not be needed, and we continue to welcome students into our building. This plan will also allow students to have easy access to their materials if a quarantine due to illness or exposure is required.
Central Road will be hosting a materials distribution for virtual students on Monday, November 23rd from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. A bag of materials will be ready for our virtual students. This distribution is not intended for our in-person students. Please pull up to Door 1, and a staff member will greet you. Please have your students name and grade level on your dashboard. We kindly ask that families staff in their vehicles.
Let’s make it a great week!
Warmly,
Patti Van Winkle, Principal

Central Road PTA News
Veteran's Day: With Veteran’s Day approaching, the CRS PTA would like to formally express our sincerest gratitude to the men and women who have served, or are currently serving in our countries’ military. If your student has a relative, or special person, in their life that they would like to give deserved recognition to, please email centralroadschoolpta@gmail.com with the person’s full name, branch of service, and relationship to the student. Feel free to include any picture from their time in the military, or a photograph of them currently. Also, any other information that warrants acknowledgement (i.e., awards or rankings). We would love to observe Veteran’s Day by honorably thanking and mentioning these heroes.
Lou Malnati's Pizza Fundraiser: Central Road School’s 6th graders are doing a fundraiser for their end-of-year celebration and will be selling gift certificates for frozen pizzas (9in cheese, sausage, pepperoni, or spinach). Anyone can purchase and use these pizza certificates! Besides being great to have on hand for your family, the certificates are great stocking stuffers and holiday gifts for teachers, neighbors, baby-sitters, friends, etc. The certificates are $13 each, valid for 6 months, and can be redeemed at any Lou Malnati’s restaurant/take-out store. We have one conveniently located on NW Hwy in Palatine, but they have locations throughout IL. In order for us to distribute the cards by early December, we need to have orders in by Thursday, November 19. For more details on how to order, click here for the flyer. Thank you for supporting our 6th grade students!
Chalk Walk Week Photos: Thank you to all who participated in Chalk Walk Week, and to Mr. Meyers who encouraged us to be creative outside! Here is a video that Mr. Meyers created from photos submitted to him.
IDHP Changes COVID Testing Protocol
On October 13, the Illinois Department of Public Health changed what COVID diagnostic test results schools may accept when permitting a student or staff member to return after presenting with symptoms. The IDPH will only allow schools to accept PCR test results, which are typically the nasal swab tests that take several days to obtain a result. Rapid test results, also known as antigen (Ag) tests, can no longer be accepted by schools state-wide. A list of recommended testing locations is available online. This list is not exhaustive, and families may choose alternative locations that also provide the PCR test.
As a reminder, if any student or staff member has one or more COVID symptoms, the person may not return to school until one of three conditions is met:
Negative COVID test result (PCR only) is submitted, OR;
Alternative diagnosis by healthcare provider submitted OR;
10 days have passed since symptom onset AND person is fever and diarrhea free for 24 hours.
Additionally, please be aware that the IDPH requires that all household members (page 1, column D, row 5) be excluded from school if even one person is symptomatic. All household members must stay home until one of the three conditions above is satisfied.
