A Message from Assistant Principal, Mrs. Bever
Last week, students, teachers, and staff, along with 1.3 million Washington State participants, took part in the 2022 Great Washington ShakeOut by practicing DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON. Our drill began with an announcement over the intercom: “It’s time to ShakeOut! This is an earthquake drill. Right now, DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON. . .” The entire message took about 1 minute and included detailed instructions about what to do during an earthquake. We did not evacuate after the drill. Following the drill, teachers spent time in their classrooms teaching students about earthquakes and how to prepare for a real one. You can keep your family safe and discover what your students learned by viewing these PowerPoints created by emergency experts that explain what to do – and not to do during an earthquake.
Safety is our top priority at Discovery, we will continue to practice safety drills throughout the school year to ensure everyone is prepared in the event of a fire, earthquake, intruder, or natural disaster.
Kudos, Families!
Thank you for helping to make morning drop off run smoothly by pulling all the way forward when possible. Your continued support helps limit congestion on the street and gets all students to school safely.
Diwali – the Hindu Festival of Lights
Diwali, or Dipawali, India's biggest and most important holiday of the year begins tomorrow, October 24. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. This festival is as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians. The Festival of Lights is a five-day celebration that includes good food, fireworks, colored sand, and special candles and lamps. Hindus interpret the Diwali story based upon where they live.

Title 1 Survey
As a parent/guardian of a child attending a Title I school, you are an important part of our team. Your input is vital as we plan and implement parent involvement activities in our school. The focus of all Title I programs is to help eligible students meet the same high academic standards expected of all children, regardless of their socioeconomic status and background.
A Title I survey provides us with important information and feedback to assist us in supporting all students and families. This survey is confidential and will be used in future planning of our parent involvement programs and school events. The Title I survey will be available on October 25th, following our Title I Annual Meeting.
