Hang on, break is coming!
February is a month that is saved by a vacation. :-) Term end, mid-year grades, musical rehearsals, and tons of athletic events make February a particularly challenging month. Add in cold weather and short days and the upcoming vacation is a welcomed break. Our students and staff have an amazing ability to stay positive and work hard, traits we are so very thankful for.
Teachers have been working hard to deliver Black History Month lessons throughout each week in February and one in March. Below is a slide from one such lesson highlighting our very own Nurse Bianca Jones. We appreciate the careful design of these lessons and the commitment to delivering them throughout each subject. It is important that we celebrate all students and backgrounds and take this time to pay particular attention to Black History.
Seal of Biliteracy Test
Is your student fluent in more than one language? Did you know that last year 35 WHS students and this year 19 students have proven that they are? The Seal of Biliteracy testing is back for the spring.
Seniors who have never taken the test, seniors who want to retake a portion of the test, and juniors taking the test for the first time can sign up using the following link. Sign up by Wednesday, March 8th. Testing will take place in the language lab during the week of April 4-8.
For more information, please contact Adam Silverberg - World Languages Coordinator at adam.silverberg@watertown.k12.ma.us.
Guidance Update
Please take a look at our Guidance Newsletter which contains information about our Coffee with Counselors scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, February 11, as well as details about upcoming scholarships and special opportunities.
COVID/Mask update
For those that missed it, Commissioner Riley and Governor Baker announced that they would be relaxing the mask mandate for schools on February 28, 2022. At this time, Watertown High School and Watertown Public Schools have not released whether that change will be implemented here, therefore, we are continuing to mandate masks in school buildings.
Pooled testing was conducted again on Monday (2/7) and identified 0 cases of COVID in the building.
Returning after COVID
If you test positive for COVID and you are asymptomatic, you may come back on day six. The day you test positive for COVID is day 0. For example, if you get a positive test on Wednesday (day 0), you can return on the following Tuesday (day 6). See chart below.
If you are symptomatic and then you test positive, day 0 is the first day you start to develop symptoms.
If you test positive and develop symptoms AFTER your positive test, day 0 resets to the day you become symptomatic.
YOU CAN ONLY RETURN after 5 days of isolation if you were asymptomatic, OR if you are fever-free and your symptoms are resolving.
If you have COVID, you cannot be part of pool testing for 90 days from your positive test, as you may test positive for up to 12 weeks on a PCR test.
Keystone Club Clothing Drive
Hello to the respected Watertown community and families! We are Keystone, a Watertown Boys and Girls Club program composed of our teens, whose focus is to give back to the Watertown community and its youth. As part of our initiative, we want to support families who were most impacted by the consequences of the pandemic. We are hosting a clothing drive, and all donations will go to Clothes For Kids. This drive will run from February 28th to March 11th. To donate new or gently loved clothes (children sizes-high school teen sizes ), please find the decorated box at any of the Watertown public schools or the Watertown Boys and Girls Club. The boxes will have the Watertown Boys and Girls Club logo and name across the front of the box. Anything helps and we would greatly appreciate it! If you have any questions, please reach out at 617-926-0968 or into@watertownbgc.org.
Thank you so much and please stay safe!
