Weekly Family Update # 19
January 5, 2020
Principal's Message
Hello Falcon Families,
Happy New Year!! I hope that everyone has had a very nice break. Our last week before Winter Break was filled lots of festive fun. Mr. Reisert’s class, in collaboration with his former student, Tehya, assembled Tenderness Totes for the needy of San Diego, our ASB class serenaded the office with holiday tunes, the Jewish Club had a lunchtime celebration of Hanukkah, and my admin and counseling team served all our staff members some hot cocoa and cookies from our mobile cocoa cart! It was a great week to be a Falcon!
Our Oak Valley Instrumental and Vocal Music department finished up the year with a fabulous choir concert on the 17th and an orchestra concert on raw 18th; both events were amazing, I am so proud of all of our Falcon musicians. Thank you to Ms. Fallentine and Ms. Lazzari for their dedication our musicians.
Congratulations to our four teams of students who participated in the Oak Valley Quiz Bowl. All teams participated in the Winter Tournament at Westview on Saturday, December 14th. Team C, placed first after playing 8 rounds and have now qualified to participate in the Nationals at Chicago in May—great job, Falcons!
Congratulations to Jaden N., who was recently admitted to the All-Southern Honor Orchestra, this is an incredible accomplishment.
I would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. Nowak, the Jazz Band, and the OVMS Music Boosters for hosting the annual Staff Jazz Breakfast. We had a great time enjoying a yummy breakfast with colleagues. We also celebrated the retirement of one of our very special Falcons, Mrs. Varigonda, who has been our EL Instructional Aide since the school opened, she has helped hundreds of students in our community become English proficient. Her kind and caring heart will be greatly missed.
Lots of great things are in store for our Falcons in the year 2020! Stay tuned for more great highlights!
Thanks for all you do for our Oak Valley Community! Go Falcons!
Beaming with Falcon Pride,
Mr. Young
Principal

Oak Valley Falcon Foundation - Help Wanted!
Love party planning? Have a secret desire to create photo booth backdrops or hand-lettered invitations? Want to use your talents to help Oak Valley Falcon Foundation? Then we want YOU!
The Oak Valley Falcon Foundation is looking for a committee chair and volunteers to plan the Spring 2020 Fundraiser. The money raised at this event will allow continued funding in the areas of STEAM, school safety, and social-emotional growth for our students. The needs and wishes of our staff are many, and important to our entire school, so this fundraiser is vital to meeting their requests. We hope you’ll say Yes! so we don’t have to tell them No.
While this has been a dinner/auction in years past, as the chair, you’d have the ability to bring fresh new ideas. Always wanted a kickball tournament? A Casino Night? Now’s your chance!
For additional information, or to volunteer to help our school, contact Foundation President, David Li at ovfalconfoundation@gmail.com .
Thank YOU for supporting Oak Valley Middle School!
