Math: We'll need to continue to review our double digit multiplication as several students struggled with this on our test. I'll introduce division and how it's related to multiplication this week. We have a Continental Math Problem Solving Meet tomorrow. Homework: Mon. problem solving, Wed. - Thursday worksheets depending on need.
Reading: We are reading informational books about simple machines this week. Students are learning about text features and how to use them in understanding concepts.
Language: This week is a spelling week. Our words are: lizard, lazy, surprise, cheese, zipper, buzz, crazy, wise, tease, zero, fuzzy, size, freeze, puzzle, prize, sneeze, chose, disease, zoology, and queasy. A study guide went home Monday so students can prepare for the test on Friday. Our spelling bee is Friday at 1:30. Lillian, Emma, Zach and Kaylin. Students are on the final stretch to finish up their informational books. Our goal is that they will be completed before the Christmas break.
Science: We've been learning about gravity, inertia and Newton's Laws of Motion. We'll continue to work on experiments that illustrate friction as well as kinetic and potential energy.
Other items: Our Scrapbook Book Reports are due Thurs.
Please continue to collect box tops for us as there is another drive taking place in Feb.
I'll see you this Tuesday evening at 6:15ish at the high school for our Christmas Program.
The Student Council is partipating in a canned (non-perishable) food drive to help the Food Pantry out during the holiday season. The class with the most items gets a free popcorn party and a movie. We appreciate your donations. Food items need to be delivered to our school by Dec. 18th.
The class voted to have a gift exchange the last day of school on the 19th. Gifts should be in the $5 range or lower. If your child wants to participate and you can't afford to do so please let me know and I'll make sure they have a gift to donate. In our class gifts need to be suitable for both genders as we play a gift exchange game to determine who gets which gift. The fun is in the game and the giving so we'll have a good time. If you would like to donate snacks for our party on the 19th please let me know.
The 4th grade is going ice skating at the Kevin Bell Arena on Tues. the 17th. A permission slip went home on Monday. We'll need assistance with drivers that day so please let me know if you're available. Make sure your child is dressed for the ice that day so they have a good time.
This Friday is School spirit day...wear your school colors or WHE apparel. Next Thurs., Dec. 19th is Elf Day. Students are encouraged to dress in Christmas colors and elf wear.
Scrapbook Directions for Dec. 12 Book Report
Scrapbook Book Report
- You will need to select a realistic fiction or historical fiction book. The book needs to be in the neighborhood of 100 pages unless you have discussed this with me. Choose a main character from your book.
- As you read the book look for events that are important to the story and to the main character. When you find an event you might want to use put a sticky note in the book with the page number written on it.
- When you have finished reading the book choose five of the events that you thought were important.
- Choose five objects (one to represent each of the events you’ve chosen) to create your scrapbook.
- Put one object on each page. On lined paper write the page number that relates to the object, the approx. date and location that relates to the event and at least three sentences that explain the importance of the object to your character.
- Continue this for all of the objects and put the pages of your character’s scrapbook in the same order that they occurred in the story.
- Make a cover page with your character’s name on it. Then make a title page that includes the name of the book, the author’s name, your name and the date.
- Bind your scrapbook and turn it in, no later than Dec. 12.
