Collegium Pre-Health Speaker Event

WIMS is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the Honors Collegium Pre-Health Group!! They have invited our members to join their meetings where they network with a large variety of medical professionals - from faculty to current medical students. Their next speakers is Elana Curry, a Collegium Alumni and current MD student at OSU. Please RSVP at the link below, but walk-ins are welcome. WIMS Meeting

Join us for our third meeting of the year in the Ohio Union! We will be meeting in the Sphinx Centennial Leadership Room on the second floor of the Union. For this meeting we will continue with our mentor groups and have a presentation by the amazing Dr. Wallace! Please see below for more information on her and her work!

Dr. Lorraine Wallace

Dr. Wallace is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, College of Medicine. She is also involved in the Colleges of Public Health, Education, and Human Ecology. Her work focuses on Health Literacy, Primary Care, Health Disparities, Access to Healthcare, Social Justice and Health, and Global Health. Based on her areas of study it may not surprise you that she loves traveling. In 2009, she was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research in Moldova. You may even see her around campus as she is involved in the STEP Program and is the Director of the Undergraduate Research Office.

Come connect with and meet Dr. Janet Best, Dr. Chuan Xue, and Dr. Ching-Shan Chou from the Mathmatics Department! Not interested in math? That's okay because each of these professors deal with different areas of research.

Please remember that if you RSVP you need to attend the event. If you cannot make it, please let us know. This is important for funding purposes because we need to know how much food to arrange for the event.

  • Dr. Janet Best is the Associate Director of the Mathematical Biosciences Institute. She does research in the field of brain physiology as well as energy allocation and the function of sleep. In her research, she brings math and science together to help explain things like Parkinson's disease.

  • Dr. Chuan Xue is an assistant professor in the Mathematics department. She does research from mathematical biology and medicine, to multiscale/hybrid modeling, to cell biology and their movement.

  • Dr. Ching-Shan Chou is an associate professor in the department of Mathematics. She does research on computational biology of cell polarization and numerical algorithms for hyperbolic problems.

Whether you are #WithHer or "Want to Make America Great Again," you are an important part of this election! Because Ohio is a swing state, we have even more influence on this election, so it is important to make your voice heard for the election on November 8th, 2016.

How do I register to vote?

If you are 18 years of age...

1. Get the voter registration form. Download and print the Ohio state voter registration form or call 1-877-767-6446 to request one by mail.

2.Fill out the form. Check the box to select whether you’re registering, updating your address, or updating your name register.

3. Send the form. Your completed form must be postmarked by Oct 11 and sent to this address:

Elections Division
180 E. Broad Street – 15th Floor
Columbus, OH 43215

For faster processing, mail it to your county board of elections.

Once you are registered to vote, you can vote via absentee ballot or vote at the Ohio Union on November 7th!
