The Buzz at Westbrook School

January 14th, 2022

From the Principal...

January 14th, 2022

Dear Westbrook Parents,

I hope you all stayed safe and warm earlier this week with the blustery weather and ice. It was so nice to see some warmer temperatures towards the end of the school week so students could go out and play at recess. Please take extra caution around Westbrook and in the Westbrook parking lot during these winter months. Our custodians work hard to salt the walkways, so please watch your step and ensure you are walking on the salted path.

We are thinking about our students and staff who have been out of the building due to illness or quarantine. As shared by Dr. Gorr this week, the quarantine period changed to 5 days for individuals who test positive for covid or are found to be close contacts. However, if a student or staff member is still exhibiting symptoms that haven't improved, quarantine may be more than five days. Please call the office if you have any questions regarding when your child can return to school. If your child has recently tested positive for COVID, please email me to opt-out of Shield testing. Students who have had COVID can show a positive test result for 90 days.

When students are zooming during quarantining they are provided a window into the classroom. This is an opportunity for the student to observe and follow along with the lessons occurring in the classroom and to stay connected with the school. Student participation in the lessons, access to classroom materials, and feedback from the teacher will be limited during this time. If students are experiencing symptoms and they do not feel well, please call in your child’s absence. Your child’s teacher will support your child when he/she returns to school.

We do not have school this coming Monday, January 17th as we will be celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. We hope you enjoy the three-day weekend with your family.

For your Children,

Danielle Crandall

Note from the Nurse: COVID-19 Vaccination Card Information

Dear Parents,

District 57 offers families the opportunity to voluntarily provide their child’s COVID-19 vaccination status. This information is important to have on file as students who are fully vaccinated (2 weeks post 2nd dose) do not need to quarantine if identified as a close contact (per IDPH guidelines) and remain asymptomatic. We are asking parents to send a copy of their child's Covid vaccination card to the health office after their child receives their second dose.

Thank you,

Julie Tworek, RN
