Our Core Values

  1. Striving For Excellence - Push yourself to deliver a high quality performance in anything you do.

  2. Be Kinder than Necessary - "Because it's not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed." R.J. Palacio, Wonder

  3. Find Your Passion - it's okay to not know what your passion is yet, explore something new or build on what you are already passionate about.

A Look Back on October

First Spotlight a Success!

We had our first Spotlight this past Friday. What a great way to start the day and end the month. We honored several students for their hard work, passion and kindness during our assembly. We also honored Mrs. Smith for our teacher of the month and Mrs. Weiss for our staff member of the month. Both hardworking dedicated members of our faculty that make this a great place to be! Any student that won an award will be awarded points (Excellence in a Subject Area = 2 points, Principal Award Winner = 3 points, Student of the Month = 4 points). Congratulations to all of our award winners. If you didn't win an award, keeping trying and working hard! Our next spotlight will be on November 25th!

Halloween is on Monday!

Get ready to have a "Spooktacular" time on Halloween! On Monday, October 31st, you can bring your costume to school, and change into it during recess. Remember, no masks or weapons. In one of your afternoon classes, you will vote for who has the best costume! The school will get together at the end of the day to vote on the GREATEST costume per grade level! The Student Council gives the winners a prize.

Fare thee Well & Welcome New Staff!

Mrs. Smith and Ms. Kolonia will be leaving us this upcoming week. Mrs. Smith is entering a new chapter in her life, retiring from education after over 30 years! Ms. Kolonia is heading into an entirely different field altogether. I want to thank them for their service to education, and the Byram Township School District. They certainly will be missed and big shoes to fill for our new hires, Mrs. Danielle Derby and Ms. Elaine Benton.

Looking Forward to November

Student Led Conferences - Early Dismissal Days

Student Led Conferences will be taking place on Monday, 11/7 from 6-8pm, Tuesday 11/8 from 6-8pm and Wednesday 11/9 from 1-3pm. Our schedule differs from the Lakes School by about 1/2 hour each day (we start earlier) in order to accommodate families with children in both schools. This allows an extra half hour to accommodate those families.

We will operate on an early dismissal schedule on those days. Signs up for grade level conferences went out earlier this week. Please be sure to sign up for a slot.

Scholastic Book Fair will be taking Place during Conferences!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place Monday 11/7-Wednesday 11/9. The book fair will be open during the day for students to visit during Gym classes. The fair will also be open during conference times as well. All 5th graders will go to the fair on Monday 11/7.

Veteran's Day Assembly featuring Major General Edward Chrystal

We are excited to announce that Major General Edward Chrystal will be joining us for two assemblies on November 14th, 2022. The Major General will speak to our 4-8th graders and will cover topics like his background & information about his current post in Washington DC, volunteering, Veteran's Day, and a short Q & A for the students. For more information on Major General Edward Chrystal, please click here. We are looking forward to meeting him and celebrating Veteran's day together!

Lee Rousin Coming 11/21 to BIS and Lakes!

Thank you to our PTA for bringing Lee Rousin to the district on November 21, 2022. His mentoring program focuses around figuring out who you really are, purposeful identity. He will also focus on helping students navigate their own life and realize how valuable they are, their SOU…Snapshot Of You and creating it. He will talk about how to grow, build and celebrate strengths & how to understand weaknesses, but not focus on them in order to foster higher degrees of motivation, respect and cooperation throughout school. For more information on Lee Rousin and his program, click here.

In Other News...

Traffic and Drop Off/Pickup

Please use the assigned lanes for drop off and pickup. As a reminder, any student being dropped off should wait to get out of the car until you have reached the drop off area under the solar panels. The left lane is exclusive for BIS families, while the right lane is exclusive for students being dropped off at both schools. Please do not lane switch as this presents safety concerns for students exiting vehicles and walking safely along the entrance route.

Secondly, only students thats live on Mansfield Drive are allowed to walk to school. Students that do not live on Mansfield are not permitted to walk to and from school. Please have your child take the bus or utilize the drop off/pick up procedure we have in place.

Board of Education Meeting will be on 11/17/22 @ 7pm in the Lakes STEaM Lab.

Charge your Chromebook!

All students are expected and required to charge their chromebooks each night. We are seeing a flood of students each morning coming to the main office with "dead" chromebooks that need to be charged. Please remind your child to charge their chromebook each night so they are prepared for class the next day.

Student Code of Conduct

As a reminder, please read our Student Code of Conduct. This Policy goes through the expectations of student behavior in school. Within the code are guidelines and examples of different infractions and how they are applied to your child's discipline tab in Parent Portal. Towards the end of the document you will leveled infractions, codes and point values for the Intermediate School.

You will also see positive incentive activities students can complete in order to earn points.

I shared this information out to students on the first day of school as well as during my Parent Academy on 9/19. You can find that video recording in the Parent Academy section above.

The school lunches are not free anymore unless you qualify through the free and reduced application process. The income guidelines have changed so if you didn't qualify in the past you may qualify now.
