Descanso Elementary Friday Focus

Family Edition Vol. 9

Important School Information

Cookie Dough: Orders will arrive on Wednesday, October 9th. If you ordered a lot or your child usually takes the bus, please arrive before school is out and load up your boxes. We have very little space in our school freezer so please arrange to pick up on Wednesday by 4:30pm. If your child attends ASP, you can pick up at the usual time.

Progress Reports: Progress reports will go home on Wednesday for students below grade level in one or more areas. If your child is progressing at grade level or already has an IEP, you will not receive a progress report. With the exception of Ms. Shelton's class because all of her students are in school for the first time. Conference week is November 18-22. Everyone will have a parent conference at that time to discuss first trimester progress and the report card.

Parent Engagement Survey: We have partnered with Scholastic to conduct a parent engagement survey. It will go home in the Wednesday folder. Please fill it out, one per family, and return by October 31st. Scholastic will help analyze our strengths and weak areas and help our district improve our parent engagement practices. We value your feedback on the survey.

Free & Reduced Lunch: Have you applied for free & reduced lunches this school year? Applications are expiring TODAY and if you have not reapplied, your student will pay full price for breakfast and lunch on Monday.

You can apply online: www.ezmealapp.com

It's easy!

Halloween Carnival: We need volunteers for the game booths. I will send a sign up sheet in the Wednesday envelope. We can still use candy donations and table raffle items. Also don't forget about the Cake Decorating Contest!

Kids Say the Funniest Things!

Mrs. Robbins was doing bus duty and Kaden (fourth grade) came up to give her a hug. He asked how old she was. She told him 53 (She looks like a teeenager to me...) He responded in amazement, "I can't believe you are still alive!"

One of our kinder students from Ms. Shelton's class came to our character card store last Friday. Miss Peggy was explaining the items she could buy, one of which was Virtual Reality glasses. Santsia exclaimed, " I can use them to fight Darth Nader!" Then after she chose her prize and Miss Peggy thanked her for shopping. She said, "This is just like Target!"
