News from the Elephant Room
Ms. Wyman's Classroom Newsletter
First full 5 day week!
It was another great week in The Elephant Room. It was evident that many of the children were tired by the end of the week, however I am so proud of them for all of their hard work! Today we learned about Habit #1- I am in charge of me from the book The Seven Habits of Happy Kids. "Be proactive. I can make my own choice. I am in charge of my behavior." It has truly been a great start to building our classroom community and it excites me to see the culture we are building with such eager learners.
The Elephants made great progress by continuing to practice our rules/routines and learning some new ones. The most important rule is to be safe. We talked about safe vs. unsafe things to do. Next week we will begin to dive into the majority of our curriculum. This may seem very different than preschool/junior kindergarten for your child, as we aren't playing all day and taking naps anymore. It's important to remind your child their job at school as a learner. Thank you for your support.
In class, we learned about 'Mat Man' and the song that goes along with it. Mat Man teaches children how to draw people by making sure they include every body part. During choice time, we explored with different objects such as pattern blocks, geoboards, puzzles, and blocks. We completed our first writing sample, where the children were encouraged to tell a story using pictures/words. We also learned about ALL STAR WORK and labeled our classroom together. Calendar and weather seems to be a 'favorite' part of our day for many children. Ask your child to sing you some new songs we've learned.
Announcements + Reminders
Clever/Seesaw STUDENT Badge: A blue and green small laminated card will be coming home in Friday folders. PLEASE KEEP THIS AT HOME AND KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE WHERE IT WILL NOT GET LOST. This is their log-in information for Clever and Seesaw *in the event* of an individual or class quarantine situation. We are practicing learning how to use these in class.
Friday Folders: Please empty and return the orange folder in your child's backpack on Monday.
Name Tags: On Monday, the children will be getting new name tags that will stay at school. The old ones will no longer need to be pinned to your child every day. I will be attaching these old ones to their backpacks (if they still have it) in case an adult needs a reference of their after school schedule. Please send in to school on Monday if your child did not wear their name tag today.
Family Photo: Don't forget to send in a 4x6 or 5x7 family photo for our classroom family wall.
Book Orders: Our first class order is due on Monday. Don't forget to use our classroom code: RKN9N
STEAM CENTER: Library books are due every THURSDAY. Please send them back in your child's backpack so they can check out some new ones.
Hilton Hound Dog Run: Thursday, September 23rd. Children will wear their kindergarten t-shirt (coming home soon) and sneakers on this day. They will run at lunch! Parents are welcome to come cheer on the children outside on the soccer fields. Kindergarten recess takes place from 11:35 AM- 12 PM.
