About the Presentation:
Argument writing is a major emphasis of the Common Core and presents new challenges to teachers and students. How to craft claims and support them with reasons and textual evidence is a well kept secret for most students. Deciphering the vocabulary of argument in the Core, words like formal style, counterclaim, and objective tone, is a foreign language to many students, too.
This workshop will provide specific strategies to unravel the mystery of how to write a well organized argument and reveal the meaning of critical argument-related vocabulary to ensure students meet the Common Core writing standards.
Outcomes:
- receive lists of general academic vocabulary related to argument that students need to know and learn techniques for teaching those words
- ·practice an efficient and systematic way to help students generate reasons and details that support a claim
- provide a structure that teaches students how to write clear, compelling claim statements that acknowledge a counterclaim
- acquire grade-level lists of argument writing skills and strategies to teach these skills
- practice a model to create content-based argument assignments for writing across the curriculum

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation should be made in writing. A full refund will be made for cancellations postmarked, or sent via email, 7 days before the event.
No refunds will be given for requests received after 7 days before the event, or for "no shows". We do accept substitution of another person at our conference. 24 hours of notification is appreciated.
All received registrations are subject to Cancellation/Refund policy. Cost of registration fee is still liable whether payment is paid or unpaid, if no notice of cancellation is received at least 7 days prior to the event.
If minimum requirement enrollment is not met prior to the early registration deadline, the event may be postponed or canceled.
