Greenback campaign
This year we would like to again give each grade level an additional $500 to spend on classroom items like math and reading games. With funds left after giving to the grade levels, we will be adding to our "Maker Space" in the library by purchasing STEM items such as Makey-Makey kits, Ozobots, and other coding and building materials. Other teacher requests include Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Workshop guides (which are about $250 a book!), and natural sunlight light bulbs for interior classrooms. None of these items will be able to be purchased without the generosity of our community!

ASPIRE and Traditional classes
1) Our non-ASPIRE classes are "Traditional" Glenhope classes. We struggled with finding exactly the best way to describe each program, but feel that traditional best represents how to describe our non-ASPIRE classrooms.
2) Students in ASPIRE do activities with students in traditional classes throughout the year. The first week of school, we ask all grades to plan activities that help students and teachers mingle so that they get to know each other. As the year progresses, we may do field trips together, as well as other learning opportunities when they arise. Of course, recess and PE include both groups each day.
3) Our ASPIRE and traditional teachers benefit from learning together. Traditional teachers may learn GT strategies from ASPIRE teachers, but ASPIRE teachers may also learn instructional strategies that their traditional counterparts have utilized successfully as well.
4) While we recognize that there IS a difference between ASPIRE and traditional, we all benefit from the presence of both groups and we want all students to feel a part of the Glenhope family. That is our goal and we continue to work on ways to help us do exactly that, while still recognizing the uniqueness of the ASPIRE Academy. Sometimes it's a balancing act, but it can be a lot of fun as well!

OUR NEW LIBRARIAN
I am so excited to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Freyou and I am the new librarian here at Glenhope. I am looking forward to a wonderful year this year with lots of fun activities centered around reading! Take a minute to visit the library website atwww.gatorzread.weebly.com and follow our library on Twitter at @gatorzread.
Volunteering is vital to the health of the library by providing much needed support to the learners here at Glenhope. We would love to have you come and volunteer in the library. If you have just an hour a week to volunteer, that would be a great help! If you don't have an hour, any time you could volunteer would be greatly appreciated! Please email me at terri.freyou@gcisd.net or stop by!

Volunteer hours
Please enter your volunteer hours for the month of August. I'm sure many of you have already accumulated hours. We keep track of all of those and they are reported at the district level. You can email volunteers@glenhopepta.org. Off campus volunteering can mean anything from teacher projects, making phone calls, Work Box Wednesday projects at home, meeting with other room moms to plan parties, sitting at home writing emails to your class about activities, shopping for items to donate to school, anything you do for Glenhope.....just estimate and get your hours to Michelle Hays. We do compete with other schools for bragging rights, so please enter your hours!
Parking and traffic
If you park too close to the cross walk, you can be ticketed. There is supposed to be 20-30' of clearance between the crosswalk or stop sign and any parked car.
The lot closest to the school is reserved for staff only. This is for safety and not capacity reasons. Children use that lot to walk into the building, and allowing cars to pull in and out increases the risk of an accident when they are in the parking lot.
