Move on When Reading

Our 3rd grade students just completed their first administration of Arizona’s Statewide Achievement Assessment (AzM2) for Reading, Writing, and Math. Our teachers worked hard to help students perform their best, and we are proud of our students for taking the test seriously. Official scores for your child’s test will be available when we return to school in August. As you know, Arizona’s Move On When Reading statute (ARS 15-701) requires a minimal Reading score in order for students to be promoted to 4th grade. The Department of Education will send us these scores on or around May 14th. If your student did not meet the MOWR requirement, you will receive a phone call from the principal or your child’s teacher prior to May 20 to discuss the results and to explain any further steps needed prior to your child being promoted to 4th grade. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the principal or your child’s teacher.

Call for artists!

Several of the NVAA seniors at SMHS have been planning our annual Phx Fine Arts Fest this year. We have decided to have a virtual version of the Fest online, and it will span a full week - May 10th thru May 16th!

The Fest will encompass a live stream of several events that week, including a live stream of the NVAA Senior Experience presentations during which NVAA seniors will present their capstones, internships, and arts journeys in the program. NVAA Theatre will be sharing their production of She Kills Monsters online. Additionally, the Esports club will be hosting video game tournaments online!

All artists (K-12) from all disciplines are encouraged to submit their work/performances which will be displayed online. The app is easy and students just need to submit a video or photo. The audience will choose a winner in each category and those artists will receive an award and prize. Below is a link to a video and our website where artists can submit their work. Applications are due Monday, May 3rd.

We are almost done with testing. In person fourth through sixth graders will test on Tuesday and Thursday this week, May 4th and 6th. PvConnect students may come to school to test with their class.

PVOnline students must come to the after hours time slot from 3:15 to 5:15PM.

Please make sure to get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast in the morning. It's appreciated if you refrain from making appointments during the time of testing.
