Classroom Spotlight

Where I'm From

Students in Justin Bandi's middle school computer classes have been using multimedia to bring to life poems written in English class. 'Where I'm From' are poems that the students wrote to express what has influenced them to this point in their lives. The poems have captured their personalities, interests and milestones. The words brought to life digitally made them extra powerful. Students used the green screen equipment available in the media lab along with iMovie to bring their words to life. What a great cross-curricular project!

Positive Thinking Cap

Students in Tammy Powell's 5th grade class at Central used the graphic organizer site MindMup and the drawing component of Google Drive to create a positive thinking cap in health class. Her students are currently learning about positive self concepts. To complete this project, students created a hat using the shapes and free draw options of the drawing component. They then divided their hat into six sections. Each section consisted of a positive quality that the student possesses. Students were required to change font, color, line style and weights as a way to learn the basics of the program as well as the health concepts covered. Her students had a great time doing this. Some even gave up their recess to work on it! Now that is dedication!

Shifting to Flipped Instruction

The next meeting of our future flippers will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 3:30 in the Middle School. Even if you could not make the first meeting, please consider attending this one. The more, the merrier! Please RSVP below. To compile what we share throughout this process I have created a LiveBinder that you can access here: Flipped Classroom LiveBinder. In this binder you will find resources, professional development opportunities, creation tools and much more to assist you as you take on this shift in instruction. Upcoming PD Webinars

Twitter Chat of the Month

Participating in Twitter chats is a great way to build up your PLN (Professional Learning Network). Create an account and start building! The chat I am highlighting this month can be found under #flipclass . On Monday nights teachers and administrators gather for #flipclass at 8pm Eastern Standard Time. This chat lasts until 9pm. Exchange ideas, resources and best practices with enthusiastic educators participating in the flipped classroom movement. At the time and date, go to Twitter and search for #flipclass. The fun part is developing virtual friendships with folks from all over the globe.

CCSS Resources

PD Pad

There are so many great resources out there, it is difficult to narrow it down to three each week. In a way to get you as many resources as possible, I have created a website to send new resources to daily. If you would like to receive these new resources to support your needs in the classroom, please go to the the site and sign up for updates to be sent directly to your email. You will only receive a daily email if I bookmark a new resource. No new resource, no email for you. I highly recommend that you sign up to receive the latest and greatest resources!
