Encino Park Elementary Library
August/September
Introduction and Welcome!
Welcome back to school Eagle Readers! My name is Melissa Figueroa and I am the librarian here at Encino Park Elementary. This is my 3rd year as the librarian and each year just keeps getting better! I have a degree in Applied Learning and Development from The University of Texas...Hook Em Horns!!! and a Masters degree in Library Science from Sam Houston State University. I have been married to my Aggie husband for 14 years and we have two little boys ages 5 and 9 that keep us very busy. Most week nights and weekends I am on the soccer field watching our boys practice and play. If I'm not there, I enjoy traveling, yoga, and of course reading! I'm looking forward to a great school year. We have a lot of fun things planned to inspire and empower our students in literacy and STEAM.
Book Care 101
Please look at the following book care tips that we have shared with your child in the library this week.
- Have clean hands when you read a library book
- Keep your books safe at home from water, pets, and younger siblings
- Turn pages carefully and slowly without a tear
- Do not fold down the corners of the pages (dog ear) to mark your spot. Use a bookmark.
- Never write on, glue, or cut a library book
- Keep food and drinks away.
- Please NO water bottles in backpacks!
- KEEP YOUR LIBRARY BOOK IN YOUR BACKPACK when you are not reading it.
- Most importantly, read with your child every night and ENJOY your books!
Check It Out!
Please make sure that your child returns their book(s) so they may check out a new one. Fines are not charged for overdue books; however, your child will not be able to check out until it is returned. Lost or damaged books must be paid for before library privileges resume. Please ask your child or child's teacher when their library day is. Awards will be given for classes with all their library books turned in on time each week!

1st grade- 2 books for 1 week
2nd grade- 2 books for 1 week

Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge will end the Friday after Labor Day (September 7th). Students were encouraged to log in their reading minutes over the summer. All participants will receive a prize for their commitment to reading and those with the most minutes will receive an extra special treat! Thank you for your help in making this a successful program to encourage our students to read over the summer. You can continue to log in those last few minutes at https://www.scholastic.com/summer/home/
Parent Library Accounts
Parents are welcome to set up a library account which will allow them to check out 5 books from the Encino Park Elementary Library at a time, and check out eBooks through OverDrive. Click here to get started!
