The Weekly Howl
St. Francis Catholic School - Sunday, February 23rd
Dear SFCS Parents & Friends,
This week the Women of St. Francis will be hosting the Soup for Scholarship event on Tuesday at 5:30pm in the Family Center. Many of our students helped paint the bowls and Mrs. Sweeney fired them all in our kiln. Thank you Mrs. Sweeney! Our girls basketball teams will be volunteering to serve the soup. All the proceeds from this event go to support scholarships for SFCS students. Last year the WOSF were able to award 3 scholarships mainly because of the success of this event. Hope to see you there if you can make it.
Preparations are underway and it looks like it will be a great day and evening on Saturday, March 14th. Ticket sales are still underway and the Gala Committee is still in need of donations, sponsorships and volunteers for the golf tournament and gala. This week a text was sent out regarding NUT Cards will be given to students who family donated items. More information is below in the FSA section and in the FSA Newsletter.
The re-registration period for current families to guarantee their child(ren)'s spot for the 2020-2021 school year ends on Friday. Acceptance letters for students and families new to SFCS will begin being sent out on Monday, March 2nd.
I hope everyone has had a great weekend.
Sincerely in Christ,
Brian Pope
Principal

Soup for Scholarship
Mark your calendars - “Soup for Scholarships” night will be on February 25, from 5:30-7:00 pm. This fun night features soups made by the Women of St. Francis, along with a few “surprise” chefs, and our own Baking Club. Join us for mouth-watering soups/chili’s, cornbread/rolls, and take home a colorful hand painted soup bowl of your own.
Tickets will be on sale after Masses on Feb. 15/16 and 22/23 for only $10.
** Tickets at the door will be $15.
Our fabulous “Soups, Salads, & Breads” Cookbook will also be on sale then, and at Soup night for only $10. Please Note: The recipe on page 79 for the SFCS Bake Club Rolls should read 10 1/2oz of water not 10 1/2 Cups of water.
Proceeds from this event and the cookbook provide scholarships to students at St. Francis Catholic School.

JPII Hosts 1st Robotics Tournament and is Crowned Tournament Champs!
John Paul II hosted its first VEX robotics tournament in January. JPII's Team 61317A was the tournament champions earning an invitation to the Create U.S. Open Robotics Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa in April. The team’s driver, Jacob Krebs, also scored 60 points during the skills competition winning the Robot Skills Champion Award - this score is currently the highest skills score in the state.
JPII's all girls team, 61317B, and middle school team, 61317C, did very well placing 20th and 15th respectively after qualifying matches.
Team 61317A’s next competition will be the 2020 South Carolina VRC HS State Championship on March 14.
According to John McCarthy, JPII principal, the tournament impressed many of our visitors. "One parent from another Lowcountry private school introduced herself to me, said she had been going to robotics tournaments for years with her sons and that this was the best run and most organized she had been to," he said.
"The event was a huge success," said robotics moderator Cadra Rooney. "We received compliments from the many teams in attendance from all over the state. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and talents to such an incredible effort!"
