From the Nurse
If your child received a vaccination recently, please bring their records to the school office and the staff will make a copy so they can update your records. If your child’s immunizations are not current they will not be allowed to attend school face to face according to the laws of Washington State.
- Not being able to be face to face at school is difficult but remember to wear your masks, wash your hands and keep your distance if you go out away from your house, esp. with holidays coming up. Since we don’t know when will be able to be at school face to face, families who marked that their children require medications at school will need to be ready when that happens. We encourage families to reach out to their doctor to have medication orders ready for the school nurse/health room to have on file when school begins. All medications needed at school should be in their original containers with the student’s name on it. Orders from the doctor will also require a parent’s signature. If parents have an questions please reach out to the school nurse, Becky Dorsett, MSN, RN at bdorsett@fwps.org
- The school nurse at OLV strongly encourages all families and students to talk with your doctor about getting a flu shot this fall. Children 6 months to 8 years old may need a series of 2 shots, with 4 weeks in between. Please talk with your doctor. Covid19 and the flu have so many similar symptoms and it will be difficult for the doctors to tell the difference between the two viruses. The flu develops within 1-4 days after exposure and Covid19 can develop from 2-14 days after exposure. Covid19 is more contagious, and a person is contagious longer and there are more serious complications with it besides the obvious respiratory issues and blood clots. The CDC is concerned about people getting both viruses as the immune system will be weakened. Please talk to your family’s doctor about getting flu shots. They are free with insurance at pharmacies or at the doctor’s office and all children under 19 should be free. There may be a small fee with the children’s shot but may be waived if the family can’t afford it. Continue to wash hands, wear masks and stay away from crowds while social distancing.
