Academy of Coastal Studies

FFA Takes 1st Place at County Competition

FFA members Dustin Hilburn, Nic Clark, Garrett Merryman, and Pierce Tipp took home 1st place trophies from the Mobile County FFA competition on March 3. These agriscience pathway students placed 1st in the Forestry competition and Pierce Tipp placed 1st in the Safe Driving Tractor competition. They will move on to the state competition that will take place in April.

Merryman Chosen to Represent AHSAA at National Conference

Agriscience pathway student and athlete, Garrett Merryman, was chosen in early February to represent the district at the 2021 AHSAA Student Leadership Council. At the leadership council on March 9, Garrett was 1 of 2 students selected to then continue on and represent the state at the National Leadership Conference, which will be held this July in Indianapolis. We are proud of you Garrett!

Coastal Studies Makes Learning Fun with Hands On Activities

Ingalls Shipbuilding Academy Students Practice for Upcoming Certifications

Students who complete the Maritime & Industrial Technologies pathway are eligible to sign up for the Ingalls Shipbuilder Academy their senior year. These students attend training at the Maritime Training center on site at Ingalls for half the day their senior year and will move into full time positions upon completing graduation to pursue a career in the shipbuilding industry.

Robotics Teams Take Home 1st and 2nd Place Trophies

Robotics had a strong finish in the final competition of the JROTC VEX Robotics District Competition. Team 1 placed 1st in Engineering Notebook and 2nd in Skills; Team 2 placed 1st overall in the Robot competition. Our Robotics team members are under the direction of Mrs. Amanda Hutto, Mrs. Kate Hand, Chief Adam Bryant, and Mr. Jacob Watford.

DECA Raising Money for Muscular Dystrophy Association

DECA will be selling green and gold shamrocks the rest of March to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. You can buy a green shamrock ($1) or gold shamrock ($5) from now until March 31 in Room G2, G5, or G7.

Lemuel De Los Angeles Places at Optimist Club Oratorical Competition

Cambridge freshman, Lemuel De Los Angeles, placed 2nd in the Optimist Club Oratorical Speech Competition on March 4. The topic of this year's competition was "Healing the World with Optimism". You can listen to his moving speech below.

Our HiQ team, led by Mr. Dai and Mr. Kimbrough, has been enjoying much success this season. Their most recent victory was a win over Murphy & MGM. We are excited to see how far they go this year!
