Home Town Heros

TPES has many kind, smart, generous and brave students. Last week, two of our very own second graders demonstrated that bravery and quick thinking when they were compelled to support a classmate during lunch. During the second grade lunch, three students sat together happily eating their lunches when one of them began to choke on a chicken nugget. Realizing their friend was choking, Therly and Giovanni from Ms. Clark's class sprang into action. They began patting their friend on the back and attending to him while getting the attention of the adults in the cafeteria. As a result of Therly and Giovanni's actions, the chicken nugget was dislodged from the second graders windpipe and he was escorted to the nurse. The choking victim was returned to the cafeteria and finished his lunch without further incident. On behalf of the entire TPES community, we want to send a great big shout out to Therly and Giovanni from Ms. Clark's class for being our very own home town heros. WELL DONE!

Open House

TPES will host Open House for parents tomorrow, October 10, 2022. This will be an opportunity for parents to see their child's school environment in action. There will be two sessions. The first session will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and the second session will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Parents of Pre-K students can attend the afternoon beginning at 1:30 p.m. to accommodate nap time. Parents and guardians can only attend one session so please choose the session that best fits your needs. You can use the link below to register for Open House or you can sign in when you arrive. If you have pre-registered, you can skip the line and go directly to your child's class. If your child's teacher is not at school tomorrow, another date will be set for Open House as it is unlikely that you will see a typical day of learning in the teacher's absence. The sign up will no longer be available after 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

Family Financial Fun Night

TPES & Piney Branch E.S. (PBES) have combined forces with the Maryland Council on Economic Education (MCEE) to present a Family Financial Fun Night for students and their families. This family fun night is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank and will include dinner and centers for children to learn, in a kid friendly way, how to manage money. This event is open to the entire family. There will be centers with activities to help kids learn about checkbooks, saving money and budgeting. This event is free for all TPES and PBES families. One session will be held at PBES on October 20th at 6:30 p.m. and the other session will be held at TPES on October 27th at 5:30 p.m. Parents can sign up for either school and don't need to sign up for the school where their child is enrolled. Unfortunately, families can only sign up for one night. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Please use the link below or the QR code on the flyer to sign up for this exciting event.

Walk & Roll to School Day, Wednesday, October 12th

October is Walk to School Month! For another year we’re excited to encourage our students to walk and roll to school. Students will be greeted by staff and parent volunteers to celebrate the occasion. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

PTA Meeting on Tuesday

Please join us for our joint TPES and PBES PTA virtual monthly meeting on Tues, October 11 from 7-8pm. Agenda will include breakout room discussions: 1) a discussion of social and emotional learning with Ms. Johnson, PBES Counselor, and the new Leader in Me curriculum with Mrs. Oberdorf, PBES Principal; and 2) volunteer training at TPES led by Dr. Gadsden, TPES Principal on how parents can best support efforts to provide smaller group instruction and other tactics to close learning and equity gaps. Even if you think you’ll be able to volunteer only once or not at all, this will help you learn how parent volunteers work with students during the school day. Be on the lookout for the zoom information to join the meeting on 10/11.

School Cash Online

School Cash Online is the how TPES will collect money for field trips, lost books and other school fees.
