A Message From Mrs. O'Shaughnessy
I hope everyone is warm, safe and enjoying our first big snowstorm of 2022. I remember the days when my daughters were little, and the excitement of fresh fallen snow. It would take longer to bundle them up, just to play for a little. There is something so innocent, so fun about playing in the snow! Shoveling, not so much 😂.
This week felt more like a return to normal at PS 88q. Our attendance is rising, with more students in school learning. Our covid cases are drastically down, and our classrooms are vibrant with AMAZING STUDENT LEARNING! I will share all of it in this newsletter, but again, our Covid 19 guidelines have changed effective Monday, January 31 and I want to share them all with you.
Here are some of the highlights (full guidance @ https://www.schools.nyc.gov/about-us/messages-for-families and translated guidance)
- Shortened quarantine period (5 days)
- Revised health screener
- Flow Charts created for guidance (see below)
- Shortened quarantine period for close contact AT HOME
I hope this guidance helps. Any questions, as always reach out.
I am sure all of you saw the images and videos of PO Rivera's funeral on Friday. This young man, only 22 years old, lost his life in service of our city. For all of us, whether parents or educators, to see such a young man, so full of passion and love for his city, pass in the line of duty, makes us think of how fragile life is.
This month, in honor of Lunar New Year, our Social Justice Committee has highlighted PO Lee. P.O. Lee represents the 104 Precinct and serves and protect our neighborhood.

New York State Diversity Grant (NYSIP)
District 24 is the proud recipient of a NYS Diversity Grant which will create ICT STEM classes in our Title I Schools from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The grant provides funding for supplies, resources and staff development focusing on Diversity, STEM and CRSE. In addition, the grant will allow for open enrollment throughout the district in kindergarten and sixth grade.
This is what it looks like in Kindergarten, with Ms. Becker and Ms. Agostino's class. These students are engaging in Project Based Learning with the Raise the Roof Unit. Students are using what they know to design a shelter. Please check out this video of our kiddos in action!
