Principal's Memo
January 29-February 2, 2024
A Message from Dr. Harris
Henderson Family!
Allow me to express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support of the incredible work happening at Henderson. Your encouragement fuels our dedication to not only strengthen our presence in athletics but also to excel in academics. While we are still a work in progress, my team and I are by no means weary as we are excited about what is to come.
In this journey towards academic excellence, I find myself reaching out for your indispensable assistance. Kindly join me in inspiring your children to extend beyond their comfort zone. As they navigate through the intricacies of middle school, the academic challenges they encounter will become increasingly complex. It is not uncommon for students to shy away from these challenges without attempting them.
I believe in the untapped potential within each student, and my objective is to guide them in unlocking their true capabilities every time they confront a challenge. With your continued support, we can empower our students to embrace these opportunities for growth and learning.
Thank you for being partners in our pursuit of academic success at Henderson.
Warm regards,
Dr. Suzan Harris

HMS Athletic Update
January 2024
Henderson Middle School is in the Middle Georgia Middle School Athletic League. The league consists of Clifton Ridge, Gray Station, Upson Lee, Pike County, Lamar County, Monroe County and Jasper County.
HMS Basketball- The HMS basketball teams hosted Pike County on Monday (1/22) beginning at 5 pm. The girls were defeated by a score of 48-38 and the boys won 38-25. The teams hosted Gray Station on Tuesday (1/23) and the girls lost 36-13 and the boys won 48-41. The 8th graders were recognized between the girls and boys games alongside their families as HMS celebrated 8th grade night. The teams traveled to Monroe County on Thursday (1/25) and the girls lost 33-14 and the boys were defeated as well by a score of 57-50 in a very competitive game. The boys finished the regular season as the #2 seed and will host the #3 seed Upson Lee at HMS on Tuesday. The winner of that game will play in the championship vs either Monroe County or Gray Station.
HMS Cheer- The HMS cheer team was on hand for the basketball games against Pike County, Gray Station and Monroe County. The girls performed on both sides of the court in the boys game vs. Gray Station and did an awesome job. The 8th grade girls were recognized between games along with their families as HMS celebrated 8th grade night.
HMS Baseball- HMS baseball has been practicing wherever they can find room as the weather has made things interesting. The team was seen working out in the gym one day and in the HMS parking lot another. Hopefully the weather will improve soon because the first contest for the Tigers will be on Feb. 6th @ home vs. Lamar County @ 5 pm.
HMS Soccer- HMS soccer teams have been battling weather conditions as well. They continue to prepare the best they can for their first match on Feb. 5th @ Upson Lee beginning at 5 pm.
HMS Volleyball- Tryouts for HMS Volleyball will be 02/05-02/07 from 3:30-5:30 in the HMS gym. In order to be eligible to try out the girls must have a current physical on file and BCSS consent paperwork completed and turned in to Coach Hall. Students must have passed 5 out of 6 classes for the 1st semester. For girls that make the team there will be a Player/Parent Meeting on 02/08 in the HMS cafeteria @ 6 pm.
HMS Track- The HMS track teams began practicing at the Butts County Athletic Complex on 01/18. The coaches held a parent meeting at Jackson High School on 01/18 @ 6 pm. The first meet is scheduled at home on 02/29 beginning at 4 pm alongside Jackson High School.
