Socratic Seminar

Mrs. Reid's history class participated in a Socratic Seminar today. Socratic Seminar is a formal method for discussion. This involves listening carefully, thinking critically, and speaking/responding thoughtfully about the topic at hand.

Acting as Supreme Court Justices

Students in Mr. Williams's history class pretended to be Supreme Court Justices today. They traveled around the room with a partner to stations. At each station, they looked at a different scenario and determined if the Constitution was being upheld.

Basketball Tryouts

Boys basketball tryouts will be this Friday, September 23. Tryouts will be in the old gym from 3:30-5:30 p.m. You must have a current physical in order to tryout. Please see Coach Anderson if interested.

Athlete of the Year Scholarship

The Athlete of the Year Scholarship Program is in high gear and looking for its next two $1,000 scholarship winners! As long as there are great scholastic-athletes walking the halls, running the fields and making our local communities better, the Athlete of the Year Scholarship Program will be there to highlight their accomplishments and award their hard work.

To apply to the Athlete of the Year Scholarship program, log on to Each application submitted is immediately placed into the consideration category, with weekly winners automatically becoming finalists for the $1,000 scholarship.

Senior athletes who carry a 3.5 GPA and above are encouraged to submit an application.

Football Tickets: We are looking forward to another great year of Hazel Green Football. We would like to introduce you to a new online ticketing service, Preptix, that we are using at Hazel Green this year. We will be offering the availability for you to purchase tickets to our home sporting events online at

Varsity home football tickets are currently available for sale online. Also, some away game tickets can be purchased online, depending on if the opposing team is using Preptix as well. All Hazel Green home and away sporting events that have tickets available for sale online will be found at the weblink below: Green

The above online tickets will enter through the pass gate on Friday night.

Tickets will be on sale at Hazel Green Pharmacy the week of the game also.

We will sell student tickets to the students on Friday home games during lunch for $4.00.

We are offering the above options to buy tickets because the lines get long especially around 6:30 p.m.

Student Season Passes: We are going to try something new this year and offer a STUDENT season pass to all of our home athletic events. The cost is $50. This will get the student in to any athletic event, excluding AHSAA playoff games or jamboree type events. The pass is scannable, so the pass will work for one scan per event.

You can buy the pass two ways:

1. Buy online at, bring receipt to the main office, and Mrs. Sharp will issue the student the pass.

2. Bring cash to the main office, pay Mrs. Sharp, and she will issue the pass.

Student Season Passes will e​​nter through the pass gate at football games and the regular gates at the other athletic events.

Pizza Deal: Every Monday after a football game, away or home, win or lose, Papa John's is doing BOGO pizza of equal or lesser value free.

Pick Up or Delivery (Hazel Green location only)

Soccer: Tryouts for the boys soccer team will be September 26-30.

Tennis: Tryouts for the boys tennis team will be September 19 and 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tryouts for the girls tennis team will be September 27 and 28 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Junior Optimist Club will have its first meeting on September 20th in room N133 (Mrs. Thompson's classroom). Students can come to either the morning or afternoon meeting. Morning meeting is at 8:05 a.m. and the afternoon meeting is at 3:35 p.m. Everyone is invited to join Junior Optimist. Our club is involved in three to four community service projects throughout the school year. Membership fee is $20 which includes club dues and a club t-shirt.

Flu Clinic: There will be a Flu Clinic for students on September 22, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. The location will be in the old office space. Your student should bring home a permission slip for you to complete if you want him or her to participate. Please complete the form (attached) and return it to the clinic. Please note that only the Fluzone Injectable vaccine will be given. No FluMist will be given at this clinic.

Disc Golf: The HGHS Disc Golf Club will meet on Thursday, September 22, immediately after school in room S-230.

Homecoming Dance--September 24th 8-11 p.m.

Tickets: Tickets for the dance will be sold Wednesday and Friday during lunch on the cafeteria stage, or you can purchase them online at MySchoolFees (see links below). Admission is $15 for singles and $25 for couples. Tickets will not be available at the door, so it's important to purchase them ahead of time. Students from other schools may not attend the dance.

Class Fees by Teacher Name

Click on the link above to see a list of class fees by teacher name. Fees for 1st semester are due September 30th. All financial transactions at HGHS may be done online. Visit My School Fees to purchase class fees, lockers, parking permits and more! Find your item, add it to the cart and check out. You will get a confirmation email, the bookkeeper will get a verification email for the purchase, and the sponsor will get a verification email. No more long lines and special trips to the school!

If you want to pay by cash or check, you can pay Mrs. Weir at the reception desk by the attendance office.

Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy: Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form in to Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.

Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend:
Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

Driver’s Permit:
Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
