Principal's Message
The staff of École Charlie Killam School would like to welcome all new and returning families to Our House. There are many new staff who have joined our ÉCKS family. We are all excited about the new school year and look forward to working closely with our students and families each day.
Some major changes to our scheduling this year include a homeroom period each day after lunch. During this daily ten minutes, students work with their homeroom teacher to help develop team building and mindfulness strategies. This idea came out of teacher and student suggestions from last year around building school community.
We have additionally added some new Gr. 7 and 8 options which include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), JAM (Project Based Science) Cosmetology. To help support our students with their numeracy and literacy skills, we have also embedded a numeracy period, a literacy period and a WIN (What I Need) period into each student's weekly schedule. These periods have been created to support students with their learning in their core subjects. We have also added more core periods to our Gr. 7 and 8 schedules. It is our goal that students will have more time to build important skills and knowledge in their core subjects.
We are proud to be your school and the place where your child will grow in a vibrant, energetic and positive environment.
If you ever have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact the office and talk to our Administration Team.
Respectfully yours,
Mr. Stephen Hoyland
