The beautiful Taj Mahal at night

Ting, ting, ting! It is 1631 in Agra,India. 20,000 workers are attempting to build the Taj Mahal. Muslim emperor Shah Jahan is eager for his creation to be built.

How was this beautiful modern building built? On this 42 acre palace the thousands of workers built a 240 feet dome , chizzled passages from the Qur'an on the main hallways. It is made entirely of Quartz and other precious jewels such as Jade. It took 20 years to build this fascinating structure! The years were 1631-1653. Did you know that the main gateway is made out of red sandstone and it has a red sandstone mosque? There is also a tomb inside the Taj Mahal.

Why was this amazing structure built?

Shah Jahan wanted to build the Taj Mahal in memory of his lovely wife and queen Mumtaz Mahal. She died while giving birth to her 13th child. The Taj Mahal was named after her. Shah Jahan and his wife are now buried under the main floor.

The Taj Mahal is still standing but the quartz is turning yellow.Today, there is about 3 million people who visit a year, but during tourist peak season there is about 45,000 visitors a day!!

Whooooo!!!!!!!! The crowd cheers as Shah Jahan opens the Taj Mahal.I interviewed Adarsh Aasif when he entered this beautiful building. He said "It is so amazing and wonderful!!" In my opinion, The Taj Mahal remains one of the most beautiful buildings ever built!
