From the Desk of Dr. Rodriguez
Officers and representatives and voters, oh my! Our Student Government elections were held today, and our students were definitely up to the challenge of winning hearts and minds all across the school. Candidates didn't make promises of free ice cream during lunch every day, or of extra field trips this year. Instead, they told us how they plan to make an impact on our school for the better; how they plan to make positive connections with their fellow students, both on and off campus; and how they plan to lead our school during these unprecedented times. We expect our officers and representatives to bring fresh, new ideas and activities to our school community, ideas and activities that help us forge lifelong friendships coupled with wonderful memories, and I am sure this will be the outcome of this election cycle. I am so proud of the efforts of each candidate, and I KNOW that they will make this year one for the books!
Congratulations to our Student Government Officers!
President: Harlan Hoenig
Vice-President: Marin Rocoplan

Have a restful and safe long weekend, and be on the lookout for our next installment of Friday at 4:00 in exactly one week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Rodriguez

National Elementary Honor Society
Riviera is a proud member of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS), an extension of the nationally-recognized National Honor Society. Membership eligibility begins in fourth grade, and the requirements to be considered for membership in the organization are impressive. To begin with, students must have at least a 93 average in the core subject areas and Spanish, a requirement that's even more difficult to achieve than to be on the Honor Roll. At the end of the first semester, a list of students who meet this requirement is generated, and a Faculty Selection Committee, comprised of several teachers and administrators, meets to discuss each student individually. Attendance and behavior records are analyzed, and a final determination is made on inviting a student to be part of the NEHS. After students and their parents accept the invitation to join the NEHS, we have a beautiful Induction Ceremony (which may be modified this year) to officially welcome our new members, as well as to give our current members the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the organization. We know that our current members will continue to impress us with their dedication to the four pillars of the National Elementary Honor Society -- scholarship, leadership, service, and responsibility -- and we can't wait for February to find out who our newest members will be!
