This week's morning announcements.
Four Day Week- This week's schedule- We will not have school tomorrow January 18, 2021 to celebrate Martin Luther King's birthday. We will have regular schedules on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday will be the Inauguration Day for our new President Joe Biden and the first woman Vice President Kamala Harris. We will have a special schedule. Students will attend 2nd and 3rd period classes. The 2nd period will start at 9:00 am. Each class will be one hour. There will be an extended lunch. After lunch students may engage in asynchronous work and or join house meetings to discuss the inauguration.
Outdoor Education- Our 6th grade students will participate in Virtual Outdoor Education February 8th-12, 2021. All activities will be throughout the school day. Classes will have specially designed lessons that will reinforce elements of outdoor education and include service learning hours. We will share more details in the next few weeks. Please stay tuned!
Signs of Suicide (SOS) Lessons- Please look at our counseling updates below for more details.
Last Day of Semester- The last day of the semester will be Friday, January 29, 2021. Between now and the last day, each class will meet 3-4 times. It is important that students check their grades and assignments submitted throughout this week. Keep up with grades and assignments White Oak!
Last Day for 1st Quarter Grade Changes- The last day for grade changes for 1st quarter will be January 25, 2021. Students in high school credit classes that need to improve their grades were invited to help sessions on the following days: HS math classes 1st and 5th periods Thursdays and Fridays. Foreign Language Classes Wednesdays from 10:05-11:05. These additional help sessions will be until January 25, 2021.
Academic Support and SEL Advisories. We want to remind students to take advantage of all of our support opportunities. Please remember that advisories on Mondays and Thursdays are mandatory. Also, all students are welcome to Academic Support at the end of the day on Tuesdays and Fridays. Everyone can improve on their grades and mastery of content.
Academic Achievement- We hope everyone makes academic achievement part of their new year resolution. If students made honor roll last quarter, we want them to make it again this quarter. Honor roll is all A's and B's and no more than one C. We also want students to reach higher by improving all C grades to A or B. At the end of this quarter, we will have an ABC celebration. We will give T-shirts to all students that make honor roll. We will also give a special gift to all students that make all A's. You can do it Wildcats!
Connect-Ed calls for Absences- Connect Ed calls will be made for students marked absent in any class. The calls will be made at 2:00pm daily. To inform us of absences, please complete the WOMS Live Virtual Lesson Absence Form.
Instructional Materials Pick-up- If you have not picked up your student’s instructional materials, you may do so daily between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.
Community Service Hours- Students that have completed community service hours can send them to Ms. Fitts. She will work with families to gather logs from last semester. Please email her at Kim.L.Fitts@MCPSMD.NET
Zoom Community Expectations- As we are eager to with build and establish virtual communities, teachers really want and need to see students with cameras on. All students need to have their cameras on when entering a Zoom session. Once they are in the sessions, teachers will work with students if there are concerns about keeping the cameras on for the duration of each class. Although teachers will work with students to be a little flexible, there are times that students will be required to have cameras on such as in entering a Zoom session ; during assessments; and for certain assignments. Students may not use avatars at any time. Students can have pictures of themselves, their names, but no avatars.
Technology- Students with Chromebooks issues can send emails to Peter.V.Crable@MCPSMD.Net or Terrell.A.Zimmerman@MCPSMD.Net. Los estudiantes con problemas con Chromebooks pueden enviar un correo electrónico a Peter.V.Crable@MCPSMD.Net o a Terrell.A.Zimmerman@MCPSMD.Net.
