NEW IPAD CASES - MAY 18th

Greetings Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to provide students with the best tools possible for learning, we are excited to share that students in grades 5-8 (grade levels in the 2022-2023 school year) will be receiving new iPad cases with a keyboard and trackpad. Data gathered from students and staff on the frequency of writing in class, the need for keyboard access, and the resulting impact on literacy and depth of learning are the foundations behind the decision. Our students in grades 5 and 6 will receive a new case/keyboard on May 18th in advance of the upcoming school year.

Access to tools that optimize learning can make a positive impact on both academic measures and pride in the process of learning and we are excited to provide an improved keyboard solution for HSSD 5-8 students. Students will now have equitable access to a keyboard at their fingertips as needed to deepen their literacy skills, have an improved visual experience with content in all subject areas without the embedded keyboard popping up and taking up over half of the screen, and a more rugged, student-friendly cover. The case also includes a more durable stand, a trackpad. and keyboard shortcuts specifically for iPad actions.

The new case will be the mandatory district provided protective case for your child. Cases must remain on the device at all times for students. If an iPad is damaged without the provided protective case, the repair and/or replacement will be the full responsibility of the end user and will not be covered by insurance.

The new iPad case is very durable with a multi-year defective warranty. Any intentional damage to the iPad case will be the responsibility of the family to cover the cost for repairs or replacement. Please continue to encourage your child to be responsible in caring for their district issued device and case.

THE GIVING TREE

This past month we have been able to give out over 5,700 pounds of food to families! We also provide families with household and personal care items. The generous donations that come in make all the difference in stocking our shelves and supporting HSSD students and their families!!

This month we are collecting plain pasta/noodles. Please feel free to send donations with your students to put in the collections bins/carts near the main office of school. Items can also be dropped off during school hours. The Giving Tree appreciates the community support in helping ensure food is not a barrier to a student’s education.
