October 12, 2018
Once again, as you watch the news and images of those areas hit so hard by the hurricanes for which we have braced for the spin-off weather, this makes you so appreciative that we weren't nose-on with them. Those images certainly put our hardships into perspective. Our thoughts truly are with these people!
If you are experiencing difficulty from these weather events, please be sure to let us know whether. You may call me, your child's teacher, or talk with our School Counselors. Yes, our heavy rains and winds most definitely generated problems and hardships. There are resources within the District and our Lexington Community. Please be sure to communicate with us!
As you know, Thursday afternoon was a designated half-day for Parent/Teacher Conferences after school and this was canceled. Teachers who were able were given permission to extend conference schedules into Friday afternoon or Tuesday afternoon next week. They are working through their own schedules and commitments to select which half-day will work for the rescheduling of conferences. Regardless, we all know that one (1) day is not enough time to conference with 100% of their parents so your conference may be scheduled on a totally different day. Thank you for your understanding and adaptability!
While the Governor closed our schools for Hurricane Florence and the traffic of evacuations, the District closed schools for Hurricane Michael. What a great call! The safety of our students is the priority! The blasting rain and winds along with falling trees and flooded roads could have been disastrous. One tragedy is one too many! Today, I appreciate the inconvenience of rescheduling conferences and making up another school day.
We are a blessed family at Midway! You are a valued member of this family!!!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary
Please note:

MUSIC
Congratulations to Midway's District Honor Choir Representatives
Music teachers Miss Trent and Mrs. Rogers are proud to announce Midway’s District Honor Choir representatives. Fifth graders Taylor Glover, Emilia Guevara, and Morgan Nesmith were selected through an audition process to be members of the Lexington One Children’s District Honor Choir.
The audition, which is performed for three judges, requires each student to sing “America” (My Country ‘Tis of Thee) as a solo without piano accompaniment and to sing the F Major scale as a solo without accompaniment. One hundred one Lexington One fifth and sixth graders competed for a spot in the 53-voice honor choir.
The District Honor Choir will rehearse on Tuesday afternoons at Pleasant Hill Middle School. The choir will perform on the steps of the State House for the Governor’s Carolighting on November 26th. The District Honor Choir will conclude its season with a final performance on March 14, 2019 at the Lexington One Performing Arts Center.
Congratulations Taylor, Emilia, and Morgan!
WILD WILD WEST MUSTANG FEST COMING SOON! FRIDAY OCTOBER 19th!
Mustang Fest Volunteers
Hello Parents! Our school carnival is fast approaching! Mustang Fest is a fun, family friendly event that the PTO puts on with help and support of Sponsorships from local business owners. Our teachers will work all of the games, inflatables, and booths so that we can enjoy the event with our families! We will need help behind the scenes.
We need volunteers to help with Set up, Clean up, selling hats/bandanas the week of Mustang fest in the mornings, judging the boot coloring contest and hanging them up in the school. Please consider volunteering! We need your help to make this event happen!
Thank you, Stacy Eubanks - Midway PTO, Mustang Fest chair
