Note from Admin Team
Greetings Wildcat Families!
This week was another great week at Trailridge. I am really proud of both our staff and students as we have continued to work together to navigate this most recent surge of COVID. We have seen an increase in staff and students out this week. As a result, we have had an increase of staff members and substitutes covering classes. Our students are doing a wonderful job adjusting as needed. Please continue to monitor your student for COVID symptoms. We need to continue to work together to ensure everyone is safe.
Next week is Kindness Week and our PROWL students have developed a Spirit Week. The information is located below. Please encourage your student to participate in our Spirit Week as well as the other kindness activities we have planned throughout the week.
Parent Teacher conferences are also coming up quickly. Conferences will be on February 3rd and will run the same as they did last semester. All conferences will be by appointment only and will be in a 10 minute time slot. Next week you will receive information on how to sign up for conferences from your student's teachers. Conferences will be defaulted to virtual, however if you would like to come meet in person please let the teacher know and we can accommodate that.
Lastly, please see the section below regarding student yearbooks. The deadline for ordering is February 18th.
Have a great weekend and go Chiefs!
Matt, Jeanette and Jake

Information on the Second Semester Musical!
School House Rock Live, Jr. is coming to Trailridge April 19-21. The musical is open to all 7th and 8th graders at Trailridge. This year, we have 9 speaking/singing roles, several solos, and many featured roles in this ensemble cast of 20-25 actors. There is also an opportunity for students to get involved off-stage with set design, lighting, props, costumes, sound tech, publicity, and more.
Students interested in an on-stage role should attend an organizational meeting after school on Monday, January 28th in Room 11. At the meeting, we’ll learn the audition songs and discuss audition sign ups. The meeting will end by 4:35 to allow students to ride the late bus.
Students interested in an off-stage role should watch for additional information about an organizational meeting later in February. They do not need to attend the meeting on January 24th.
Any questions please reach out to Heather Mayfield (heathermayfield@smsd.org).
Student and Staff Health
Note for Nurse Denny on the Option to share Student Vaccination Information
As we prepare for second semester and the likelihood of increased COVID cases after winter break, we are asking parents of students who have received the vaccine to provide documentation of their student’s COVID vaccine to the school nurse. While COVID vaccine documentation is not required, it helps the school nurses in two ways:
1. Students who are asymptomatic, with documentation of being fully vaccinated, are not excluded from school if exposed to a positive case.
2. Nurses can better estimate the number of fully vaccinated students in a building which is useful information when there are outbreaks.
Again, while COVID vaccine documentation is not required, it would be helpful to the school nurse. You can share that info with our nurse at darladenny@smsd.org

Athletics Update
Updated Mitigation Protocol
The Board of Education has approved new mitigation measures to help control the spread of COVID-19. The new policy for activities and athletics can be found here: https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1641929301/smsdorg/lhszcklvtnqdsdthi0rl/SMSDMitigationSpectatorGuidelinesWinter2021-22updated1-11-22.pdf
Trailrdge is currently masked due being above the 3% threshold. If you would like to attend a game or event at Trailridge Middle School at this time you must be masked. This could be a possibility for other schools in Shawnee Mission as well. Please be prepared to wear a mask at other schools depending on their mitigation status. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jake Bauer at jacobbauer@smsd.org.
Reminder that if student athletes test COVID-19 positive there is a KSHSAA Return to Play protocol. That protocol is linked here: https://www.kshsaa.org/Public/pdf/ReturntoparticipationguidelinesFall2021.pdf
If you have any questions, please contact Jake Bauer at jacobbauer@smsd.org
Boys Basketball
Our Boys’ Basketball team began their season this week at Hocker Grove. Our A team lost their game but both our B and C teams won! Next week our boys will play at Indian Hills Monday and home versus Indian Woods. Good luck to our boys on the team!
Students Attending Games and Pep Club
Students supporting their fellow classmates is one of the highlights of athletics. We are excited to have our students back supporting their peers as members of the Pep Club. If students want to attend a home game they can join their fellow students in the Pep Club. If your student would like to join their fellow students in the Pep Club then they will need to do the following:
- Go to the MPR after school and sign in with the Pep Club Sponsors.
- Listen to the expectations of the Pep Club Sponsors.
- Sit in a designated area in the Main Gym.
- Only leave the bleachers when directed from the Pep Club Sponsors.
- Sign out with the Pep Club Sponsors when they decide to leave.
If students would like to come to home games with their parents/guardians then they will need to stay with them for the entirety of the game.
Please remember that if your student would like to attend away games they will need to be accompanied by an adult at all times. If you have any questions, please contact the Athletic Director Jake Bauer at jacobbauer@smsd.org.
