CHS Commencement on Thursday, May 30 at 7 p.m.
The 129th annual Chesterton High School commencement exercises will be hosted on Thursday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the CHS Football Stadium (weather permitting).
Senior class senators are Jennifer Gillen, Jake Darmon, Sarah Harmon and Emma Olson.
Teacher PennyJo Morris will present the Commencement Address.
Other events of the day include...Presentation of honor students by Brent Martinson, principal; awarding of the diplomas by Judy Malasto, interim superintendent of schools; Monte Moffett, assistant superintendent, and the officers and members of the DSC Board of Trustees; and the traditional turning of the tassels and closing by Haydn Malackowski, vice president of Student Affairs.
Admission tickets will be required if commencement has to be moved to the gym. The doors at the gym will be opened at 6 p.m. Each senior will be issued up to eight tickets for his/her parents and relatives. Those not wishing to use all their tickets are asked to return them to the main office as soon as possible. They will be redistributed to those who request tickets for additional family members. This information will be announced at the school. If weather permits and commencement is held outside, these tickets will allow those to be seated outside as early as 5:30 p.m. General admission will begin at 6 p.m.
Special tickets are required for those guests who are physically unable to climb the bleachers. You may exchange your regular tickets for the special seating tickets in the main office. Special handicapped parking is available. It is recommended that seniors and those with mobility limitations be dropped off while other family members park the vehicle elsewhere.
A decision as to whether the commencement will be held inside or outside will be made on Wednesday, May 29. This announcement will be made to senior students and via local radio stations and newspapers.
Graduation DVD’s: DVD’s of the 2019 graduation ceremony will be available for purchase at $20 each. The DVD will be mailed to you as soon as they are ready. The graduation ceremony will be streamed online live only on the day of graduation and will not be uploaded to the web after that date. To order your graduation DVD, please fill out an order form and return it with your payment to Matthew Waters or Michele Stipanovich at the radio station – Room E-500 or the radio classroom A-513. Order forms will be found online on the Duneland website by going to CHS or you can get one at the CHS main office. DVD’s will be mailed to you only if ordered by graduation night. After that date, you will have to make arrangements to pick it up at CHS.

Invitation to Current Graduating Seniors
We would like to welcome our current graduating seniors into the newly formed Chesterton High School Alumni Association. This year’s 2019 graduates are being offered a special Lifetime membership for $50 through Sept. 4, 2019. These dues will help support the enhancement of the Duneland School Corporations' educational processes and scholarships for graduating seniors at Chesterton High School.
Help us to continue to grow and present more and more of our graduates college assistance. We will also enshrine teachers, administration, support staff and graduates (alumni) into their respective ''Halls of Fame” at our annual banquet to be held in May of each year.

Liberty Intermediate Young Citizenship Award
The Duneland Exchange Club recently presented Liberty Intermediate sixth grade student Owen Edlen, pictured with his certificate. This award is given to a student who is an all around good citizen. Liberty Elementary Attendance Bike winners
As part of an incentive program, students at Liberty Elementary School who had perfect attendance each month had their name entered in a drawing to win a bike purchased by Liberty Elementary School. On the last day of school, one girl and one boy’s name is drawn to win a bike. Winners were, left to right, second grader Nathaniel Regan and first grader Brooklyn Moskalick. Chesterton Middle School honors eighth grade academic accomplishments
Chesterton Middle School hosted its annual Honors Award Ceremony for eighth grade students at the school this past Wednesday evening. Receiving the Presidential Academic Achievement Award are eighth grade students who received a cumulative 3.5 grade point or higher as well as receiving high achievement on state or nationally normed reading or mathematics exams. Those students with an asterisk (*) were also honored for achieving the Principal’s Honor Roll for six out of eight terms while in seventh and eighth grade at CMS.

Incoming juniors and seniors
Local physicians will be conducting a comprehensive physical exam including a musculoskeletal evaluation. Any physical given after April 1 will be acceptable for the 2019-20 school year according to IHSAA guidelines. In addition, ALL athletes must have a physical form as well as the concussion/sudden cardiac arrest paperwork on file in the athletic office prior to any summer workouts with their respective team. This includes attending summer camps with a CHS team! All incoming freshman are included in this requirement!
Physical forms should be obtained at the CHS athletic office prior to these evenings but they will also be available at check in and on the CHS and CMS athletic department web pages. Any athlete under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian and all required portions of the physical form must be signed by both parents for it to be valid. Athletes are asked to wear shorts and a t-shirt for the musculoskeletal exam and should be wearing their contact lenses or glasses for the vision test. An athlete will not be cleared to participate unless he/she passes the vision test. Athletes should refrain from any high intensity workouts prior to coming to the physicals.
The cost is $25 per athlete but for those families with three or more athletes, the total cost will be capped at $75. Parents can write a check made out to CHS or pay with cash.
Please enter through Entrance 31 (northeast corner of building) and report to the cafeteria waiting area. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Athletes and parents will then be escorted to the physician exam rooms. No walk-ins will be accepted after 8 p.m. each evening.

Summer Athletic Camps for Duneland School Students
2019 Chesterton Volleyball Camp
Chesterton High School Volleyball will offer summer skills camp June 3-6 for grades 4-8. Grades 4-6 will meet from 10:30-12:30 and grades 7 & 8 will meet from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Chesterton Middle School. Campers will be divided on courts by ability. Each camper will receive a ball and camp shirt. All boys and girls entering grades 4-8 th are welcome. Space is limited. Future Lady Trojans Basketball Camp for grades K-8. Chesterton High School coaches and players will demonstrate and teach the skills necessary in becoming a Future Lady Trojan. The fundamentals of the game along with the “Relentless” defensive and offensive system will be taught to campers. For more information see shorturl.at/iyBL0

Summer Tennis Camp for students in grades K-9 will be hosted at the CHS Tennis Courts. Students entering grades 8 & 9 will meet on May 29-May 31 (rain date make up days to be determined). 2019 Boys Basketball Camps in May and June
Basketball Camp is for specific grade levels. Players will work with current players and coaches. Camp is designed for all skill levels and will consist of individual skills, team skills, team play and competitions.
June 3-6 for grades 8 & 9 from 1-3 p.m. in the CHS Fieldhouse. Cost $50
June 24-27 for grades 5-7 from Noon-2 p.m.and Grades K-4 from 2-4 p.m. in the CHS Main Gym. Cost $60
Father/Son Camp will provide an opportunity to learn skills and drills that can be done at home. This camp is on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at CHS. $50

2019 Little Trojan Football Camp
Chesterton High School will host a Little Trojan Football Camp for students going into grades K-6 from June 3-6 (Mon.-Thurs) from 1-2:30 p.m. for Grades K-3 and from 2:30-4 p.m. for Grades 4-6 in the CHS Football Stadium turf field. This is a non-contact camp where kids will learn all the positions on offense and defense. Your camper will also experience the fun of participating in football related games and drills while interacting with the high school players. 2019 CMS Spring Football Skills Camp
CMS Spring Football Skills Camp: Chesterton Middle and High School are hosting a free Spring Football Skills Camp for existing 6th (WIS/LIS/St. Pat’s) and 7th graders that plan to play middle school or Pop Warner football next year. The camp will be conducted on the CMS Football Field on May 14th - 15th & 16th from 3:30-5:15 p.m.
The following is UPDATED info as of 5/8/19: Equipment will be fitted on Monday, May 13 for both 6th and 7th graders from 4:30-5:30 p.m. each day. Plan to meet near the south side of CMS at Entrance 11. For more information, please contact mapeterson@duneland.k12.in.us
2019 Chesterton Football - Skills Camps for Grades 5-8
Chesterton High School will host a Football Skills Camp for students entering grades 5-8 in the fall of 2019. The camp will focus position specific skills needed to play Pop Warner or middle school football. This camp will be conducted at the CHS Football Field Turf.
Session 1 is Defensive Back and Wide Receiver Skills Camp from June 17-19 from 2-3:30 p.m.
Session 2 is Quarterback and Running Back Skills Camp

2019 Trojan Soccer Camp (July 29-Aug. 1)
The Chesterton Trojan Soccer Camp is a skills camp conducted by the high school soccer coaching staff along with several current players. Some of the skills taught include: agility drills, individual skill development, tactical knowledge, small-sided progression, and full-sized games depending on age groups. The goal is to expose the players to a positive atmosphere where they can gain knowledge of the game, have fun, and become acquainted with the Attire: Each player should come to camp ready to play with his or her own shin guards and ball.

Last Day of School: The last full day of classes for all Duneland students is this Friday, May 24. Parents and the community should be aware of an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic during regular school dismissal times.
The school corporation appreciates the continued support received from the community and parents in addressing the safety of students.
Report Cards for the fourth quarter will be available on your student’s Portfolio Tab on your Skyward Family Access Parent Portal by Friday, May 31. Parents will have the option of printing out their student’s report card. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact your child’s school. Please contact your child’s school if you are having problems accessing your Skyward site.
Last CHS Open Swim: Chesterton High School will offer open swim for the last time this school year on Wednesday, May 15 from 7-8:45 p.m. (pick-up by 9 p.m.) Open swim is for infants thru grade 12. Admission for adults is $2 and Duneland students $1 (no staff passes). Please bring bills smaller than $20 for admission. Towels are not provided. Small children with or without a floatation device must be with a parent or guardian at all times and be within arms reach at all times. Those attending should use Entrance 34.
Freshman Orientation Program: Trojan Charge is a program to help incoming freshmen become acclimated to Chesterton High School. School personnel will focus on helping incoming freshman with goal setting, college and career opportunities, and providing information on all of the great opportunities CHS has to offer students. Many upperclassmen will be available at the event to help mentor the students.
The Orientation program will be hosted on Wednesday, August 7, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 pm. at Chesterton High School. Lunch will be provided.
