ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING REGISTRATION
Registration for AP Testing (Spring 2021) opened Wednesday, September 16th at 8:00 am via a link on the Royal High School Homepage. All students currently enrolled in an AP course can register (even if your AP class will be held in the 2nd or 3rd term of distance learning). Students at RHS are not required to take the AP test for any AP course they are enrolled in, but it is encouraged. Information and instructions have been emailed to all AP Students. Please read and follow them closely. Registering for the test and paying for the test are done on two separate online systems (both must be done). The deadline for registering at RHS is November 10th, 2020. For questions, contact Mr. Dobson.
PSAT/NMSQT
In previous years we have administered the PSAT/NMSQT to 11th and 10th-grade students. Due to our current circumstances, we are unable to host this event this fall. The College Board has now opened up a new date on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, which we are hoping to offer to our students. The January administration will have the same benefits as the October PSAT/NMSQT, including eligibility for programs administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. We will send families an email by mid-October when ordering for the January administration is open. Please contact Mr. Dobson if you have any questions.

COUNSELING DEPARTMENT SERVICES
During this difficult time, we realize students may be struggling academically, interpersonally, and emotionally. We also realize there is a unique level of stress on all families with school-aged children. To that end, the Royal Counseling Department is available for support, to connect you with local resources, and to help provide foundational support for student's at school and in distance learning. Supports include but are not limited to:
- Academic Struggle and Support
- Communication with RHS Staff (and support for distance learning)
- Social-Emotional Well-Being
- College & Career Planning
- Supporting families in ensuring that students are reporting to distance learning and thriving
For help with any of these, students and/or families can begin by emailing their counselor to discuss needs, discuss resources, and create strategies. (For additional questions regarding counseling services, please reach out to Mr. Dobson.)

FEATURED COLLEGE
Kalamazoo College
Click here for Tuition & Financial Aid Info
Enrollment: 1,406
Acceptance Rate: 73%
DETAILS: Kalamazoo College is a small school in America’s heartland. But college subsidies enable the majority of students to go abroad during their years here, making the school a launching pad to the world. In addition to international education, the school’s K-Plan emphasizes teaching, internships (80 percent of students have at least one), and independent research (as seniors, all students complete a senior individualized project, with one-on-one faculty supervision). Students are exposed to a demanding academic schedule and high expectations from faculty. “K is a very rigorous place,” warns one student, “characterized by people who want to do well and are passionate about their work.”
Life on Kalamazoo’s wooded, 60-acre campus centers on the Quad, a green lawn where students ponder their destinies and play ultimate Frisbee with equal ease. With its rolling hills, Georgian architecture, and brick-laid streets, the campus has the quaint look more typical of historic New England than of nearby Kalamazoo, which, with surrounding communities, has 225,000 residents. A new 30,000-square-foot fitness and wellness center opened in 2016.
After their sophomore year, most of Kalamazoo’s undergrads meet life’s challenges with suitcase in hand, studying wherever their heart takes them, for the regular tuition price. The college offers three-, six-, and nine-month immersive study abroad programs that are available to all students, regardless of major; all credit earned during study abroad transfers back to Kalamazoo College. “I studied abroad in Clermont-Ferrand, France, for nine months. I went to a French university, lived with a French family, and was completely immersed in French culture. It was a huge learning and growing experience, and I am very thankful to have been able to do it,” says one student. Seventy-five percent of students take part in study-abroad programs. In fact, Kalamazoo offers students the opportunity to study via dozens of programs in 26 countries. Kalamazoo’s Center for Experiential Education is another resource for information on careers, internships, and study abroad.
KC Student Perspective: “Professors here are also doing research or work in their fields, so you may be able to work in a professor’s lab during the school year or summer, or hear about their clinical practice in psychology, or learn about the process of writing a book."
