Environmental Movement

The goal

The environmental movement is a movement to conserve and sustain the environment and to use politics and silence to keep the world clean and sustainable. All help is needed to achieve this effort of a clean earth from established organizations to grassroots movement


Environmental Conservation - to protect from harm or destruction or nature habits and resources.

Sustainability - To have a working environment with reproducible resources to ensure the continuation of a healthy environment.

Grassroots - The getting together of individuals to work towards a common goal from the button up to enact change.

Influential People

John Muir - A naturalist born in Scotland who emigrated to Wisconsin and enjoyed being in nature and was a key figure in the creation and preservation of Yosemite national park.

Edward Abbey - Know as one of Americas most dedicated environmentalist. He was born in Pennsylvania and is know for his strong defense of the deserts and the American west.

The Clean Air Act of 1970 - This legislation authorized the development of comprehensive federal and state regulations to limit emissions from both stationary (industrial) sources and mobile sources (epa.gov)

The Air Pollution Control Act of 1955 - authorizing the United States Surgeon General to conduct research, investigate, and pass out information "relating to air pollution and the prevention and abatement thereof" Therefore, The Air Pollution Control Act contained no provisions for the federal government to actively combat air pollution by punishing polluters (Wikipedia.com).
