Message from the Principal

Dear Barbieri Families,

I hope that you are all continuing to stay safely at home and are all healthy! As you are all aware the district announced last week that all staff will return to remote teaching in-person at all FPS schools starting Monday, February 1st. Our priority right now is to ensure a safe and comfortable work space for all of our teachers returning on February 1st. Barbieri Administrators are meeting daily to develop plans to ensure the maximizing of space, distribution of sanitizer, wipes, masks, etc. and technologically support that our teachers will need. Supporting our teachers with this transition is our priority!

I have attached the most recent announcement regarding the return to school plan below. Please read it thoroughly and don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions!

Con mucho aprecio,

Counselor's Corner

COVID has truly changed the way we function. Everyone is spending a lot of time on a computer screen than ever before and I recently read a great article about “Visual Fatigue” on the Huffington Post. The article provided its readers with 6 great tips to fight eye fatigue and below are three of the tips that I found that might be helpful to families.

  1. Lighting: Make sure you are in a well lit area of the room. Use of a floor lamp when possible is recommended as light will shine in the room without straining your eyesight on the computer screen.

  2. Eye Yoga: Look to the left, hold the position, repeat looking right. Look up, hold the position, repeat looking down. Repeat four times, closing your eyes and relaxing in between. Try this as a break for your eyes throughout the day.

  3. Follow 20:20:20 rule: Essilor recommends people follow the 20:20:20 rule throughout the day to ensure they take regular breaks away from their screens. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This relaxes the focusing muscle inside the eye.

The other tips can be found here. Take advantage of the screen breaks and lunch breaks to actually move away from the computer screen as well.

As always, please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns that we can help you with.

Information about McAuliffe Charter School

McAuliffe Charter School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Although Walsh Middle School is the feeder school for Barbieri, the district has a great partnership with The Christa McAuliffe Charter School. Below you will find some information about it. However, we want to make it clear that the dual language program continues ONLY at Walsh. At Walsh the two way students receive two of their classes in Spanish daily -social studies and Spanish language arts. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Estimados padres o tutores:
