3rd Grade
September 15th, 2016
What a great week of school we’ve had! We continue to work on community building activities and practicing of routines and procedures we have established in the classroom.
Just a reminder that your child is able to bring ONE morning snack, as our lunch time is later this year. Our snack time is a working snack, so please choose something that is easily eaten while working.
We have been using our behavior color system in the classroom, which is recorded in the assignment notebook. Please make sure you are checking & initialing your child’s assignment notebook each night. This is also a place that you can communicate any questions or changes in after school schedule with your child’s teacher. We appreciate your support on this!
In literacy, we have dug into Language Workshop. The books we have been reading and responding to in our thoughtful logs have been, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” and “A Fine, Fine School”. During reading, we have been launching our workshops in our classrooms. This includes storage of materials, finding and reading “Just Right” books, and building our reading stamina during independent workshop. We will continue building these routines and procedures throughout the month of September.
In math, we are still focusing on data and graphing. Students have learned how to use a scale greater than 1 as well as answer more or less questions, i.e “How many more liked blue than pink?” We have also began to review our mathematical practices. Early next week, students will learn about Tenmarks and math homework expectations for the year. Watch for a note and log to come home soon.
In science, we have just started our unit on Fox River. Please return your child’s permission slip, if you haven’t already done so, as soon as possible. If you offered to volunteer on the field trip, more information will be coming out soon. We will continue our Fox River unit next week as we prepare for our field trip.
If you have questions or concerns, please let your child’s teacher know.
Have a great weekend!
