Bus Transportation Changes to Take Effect This Fall
The Board of Education received information on the system's return to the policy governing the provision of school bus transportation for students living within a two-mile radius of their assigned school. Following the 2011 tornado, TCS made the decision to transport all students due to so many families being relocated. It now must return to adhering to the state law or risk losing state funding.
There will be 1,200 students who will receive a letter this month stating that current bus services will not be available to them next school year as they live in the two-mile radius of their assigned school. Students with IEPs who require transportation and students who have an established hazard are not part of this group receiving a letter.
In other action, the board:
- Approved the Minutes of April 3, 2020 Called Board Meeting
- Discussed Providing Guidance on Required Two-Mile Transportation Attendance Zone
- Received Financial Reports for October 1, 2019 - February 29, 2020 and All Reports are Reconciled w/Bank Statements through February 29, 2020
- Approved Amended MOU between The City of Tuscaloosa and Tuscaloosa City School System
- Approved Superintendent's Recommendation Regarding Changes in Personnel
- Approved Re-Envisioning Success Prep for SY 2020-2021
