Achondroplasia

GENETIC DISORDER

SYMPTOMS

  • Abnormal bone growth
  • Short stature with disproportionately short arms and legs, short fingers, a large head
  • Prominent forehead
  • Mid-face hypoplasia

CAUSES

The parents have result of a new gene alteration (mutation).

LONG TERM EFFECTS

People with achondroplasia usually have a short stature

SHORT TERM EFFECTS

People with achondroplasia live normal lives

POSIBLE TREATMENT OPTIONS

No treatment but should take measures to avoid obesity at an early age.
