Technology Agreement
Dear Blades Elementary School Families,
I would like to thank the Blades Bobcat Boosters for the continued support of classroom instruction through the acquisition of technology like Smart boards and document cameras. All 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classrooms have replaced their student desktops and added laptops or chromebooks for student use. This has been effective due to the district providing Wi-fi for the entire building. The future is very bright at Blades in terms of technology integration in our classrooms and student engagement!!
However, despite these gains, the pace of changes with technology has made it difficult to remain on the cutting edge of educational technology in all areas. Many Mehlville and area schools have adopted the use of e-readers (iPad, Kindle, Nook, various tablets) within the classroom. I have had a number of parents contact me with the question “Can my child bring their e-reader to school to read the great book they’ve been reading at home?” This question brought forth the notion that we cannot ignore the fact that a number of our students do all their reading outside of school on these electronic devices.
I am thrilled that students are feeling excited about reading due to these devices, and I want to do anything within my power to enhance student learning at Blades. Like other schools, we call this initiative B.Y.O.T. (Bring Your Own Technology). We are only allowing this for 4th and 5th grade students.
It is my expectation that any device brought to school be used appropriately and only by that student. If a student brings their device, it can only be used as an e-reader. If a student is found abusing this policy, they will no longer be allowed to use the device at school and parents will need to pick up the device in the office. Students are NOT allowed to bring iPods or mobile phones to school use as e-readers. Sharing of devices is NOT allowed.
I also need to clarify that Blades will NOT be able to replace any lost, stole, or damaged devices while at school or on the school bus. If you would like your son or daughter to be able to use technology brought from home at school, please complete the information below and return it to your child’s teacher. If you have any questions, please contact me at 314-467-7301 or your child’s teacher. Thank you!!
